(1) Seminar on Interaction Between Japanese RIPS Study Mission and Myanmar -
ISIS Held

		Seminar on the Interaction between the five-member study mission from
Research Institute for Peace and Security (RIPS), Japan and Myanmar Institute
of Strategic and Industrial Studies (Myanmar- ISIS) was held at the conference
room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 24 August. During the course of the
seminar, discussions revolved around ?Integration of Myanmar into ASEAN?.
Myanmar and Japanese sides also exchanged views on the issue. The visiting
mission includes Prof. Mr. Seki Tomoda,Prof. Mr. Masahiko Ebashi of Meiji
Gakuin University,  Prof. Mr. Minoru Kiryu of Osaka Sanyo University, Prof.
Mr. Mashi Nishihara of National Defence Academy and Attendant Researcher Ms
Amiko Nobori of RIPS.
 
(2)		Border Tourism Development Discussed

		Ministry of Hotels and Tourism sponsored a meeting to discuss border tourism
development in Mongla-Kengtung-Tachilek region in eastern Shan State at the
ministry on 24 August. Plans to attract nearly 400,000 vacationers visiting
Mongla area annually to Taunggyi, Mandalay, Bagan and Yangon through Kengtung
tourist destination to help promote tourism industry and national economy and
for the public interest and the need to implement the programme in the coming
open season were discussed.

(3)		Myanmar Dental Association Branch Opens in Pyay

		A ceremony to open the Myanmar Dental Association Branch took place in Pyay
on 23 August. 

                        OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 24 AUGUST

(A)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission received President of the
Hiroshima Bank Ltd. Mr. Makoto Uda and party at his office. They discussed
investment prospects and opportunities in Myanmar.

(B)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism received Managing Director Mr. Toshio
Yoneda and party of Hopison Myanmar Co. Ltd. which is investing in
constructing Yangon Commercial Tower on Sule Pagoda Road, at his office.

(C)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Mr. A Wahyuhadi Sh
and party of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya of Indonesia at the commission office.
They discussed investment opportunities in Myanmar. Similarly he also received
General Manager Mr. Toru Tsuju and party of Mitsui Co. Ltd. of Japan at the
commission office. They discussed condition of investment in Myanmar and
investment permission.

(D)		Deputy Minister for Health received International Consultant of Singapore
Ms Sylvia Yong at his office. They discussed cooperation of a heart surgical
team of Bumrugrad Hospital Bangkok in Myanmar.
