            ALL BURMA STUDENTS' DEMOCRATIC ORGANISATION
                        (AUSTRALIA)

21st August 1998

Today, we, All Burma Student Democratic Organization, and students from 
Australian National Unversity protest in front of the Burmese embassy. 

This protest is mainly to:

-give fully support to Aung San Suu Kyi-led National League for 
Democracy calling parliament on the 21st of August 1998 (today).

-denounce the military regime's ignorance on the 13-point proposal.

The rally started in the morning and in the afternoon students clashed 
with federal police while the students trying to put down junta's flag 
inside the embassy. The students were chased by police dogs. After that 
five students ; Peter Vinich ( President of the ANU Students Union), 
Maung Maung Than (Secretary -ABSDO), Ye Wint Thu (Organizational Affair 
- ABSDO), Toe Toe (Foreign Affair - ABSDO) and Zaw Min Ohn (ABSDO) were 
detained.

The other students continue their protest in front of the embassy.
