IT is unofficial translation.
---------------
National League for Democracy
No: (97/b) West Shwegondine Road
Bahan, Rangoon
Statement 22(8/98)
1. A letter from the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs addressed to the
Chairman of the National League for Democracy was received today which
purported to be an "invitation" to meet him on the 8th August, 1998.
2. The League's views on this matter are as hereunder:-
(a) The chairman should be properly informed about the subject
matter and the reason for such invitation. An "invitation"
to meet is insufficient.
(b) The League being a political party needs to be fully briefed
on the subject matter in order that they can be prepared and
effectively proceed further on any subject of discussion.
3. Further, the information given to the Chairman by Major Thura, who
delivered the letter was that he could be accompanied by any member of
the Central Executive Committee of the League excluding U Tin OO, U Kyi
Maung and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. This is totally unacceptable to the
League. In response, the bearer of the letter was referred to the
Multi-Party's Election Commission Notification 245. This statement is
published for their information.
