It is ironic that the SPDC's sudden admission that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
is more than a politician and that she is the daughter of our national
hero General Aung San came only after the NLD's statement was made
public on Thursday saying she had officially asked at the end of July
that the guards be removed.

In any case, as the SPDC had not pulled out the guards from the grounds
of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's residence since her official request on July
31, 1998, the guard are indeed trespassing and that it would amount to
an unlawful restriction on her by the SPDC. The SDPC has broken the law
by restricting her movements and keeping her under guards in her own
home.

We urge the SPDC to honor the rules of law in Burma and remove the
guards immediately from Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's residence grounds.

In soliderity with the NLD's movements,
