Austrian Foreign Minister Wolfgang Schuessel, representing the European
Union, told the same news conference: ``The response is not
satisfying...this is not a satisfying situation.''

On Tuesday the United States, European Union, Japan, New Zealand, Canada,
South Korea and Australia confronted the Myanmar foreign minister during an
informal meeting on the fringes of an Asian security conference

They asked for Yangon-based diplomats from the United States and Japan to
be allowed to see Suu Kyi.

On Tuesday U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright expressed grave
concern over Suu Kyi's health and safety and said the U.S. government held
Myanmar's military government directly responsible for her safety.

There was no immediate U.S. reaction to the Myanmar statement -- Albright
left Manila on Wednesday morning.

Suu Kyi has refused to budge from the spot where her car was stopped at a
small village, demanding that she and other members of her party be allowed
to travel freely in the country.
