To
Chief Justice
The State of Massachusetts,
U.S.A
Dated 29/6/98

The desire of WANKHA EDUCATION WORKERS ASSOCIATION that more economic
sanctions be imposed toward the Burmese military regime.

(1) The Wankha Education Workers Association WEWA has been founded by the
school teachers of WANHKHA. Its present headquarters is at Huaykhlocke
Refugee Camp1. We have formed our association, basically having in mind, to
nurture young people around us, to be equipped with courage and abilities
to face and overcome whatever adversities, problems and hardships that they
have to encounter in their future lives.

(2) [The WEWA wants the present international economic sanctions imposed on
Burma be extended and exerted with more pressure.

(3) The constructive engagement policy of some ASEAN nations and a few
other countries is becoming a route, bringing benefits and prosperity only
to the military officers of SPDC, formally known as SLORC.
Which the military personnel and their kindred prosper, the public all over
the country suffer from poverty, full of despair.
Foreign aids (cash of loan) donated by some countries in constructive
friendly gestures are allocated mainly for the defense sector and the
military for the defense sector and the military officers.
At present, the Karen, Karenni, Shan, Pa.Oh and Mon ethnic nationalities
along the Thai-Burma border area have to bow down their heads and suffer
the ill-treatment, harassment and tortures executes by the SPDC army.

(4) The repressive administration of the SPDC military junta creates
social, economical and political chaos all over the country. About a
million people, not being able to endure this misgovernment flee into
Thailand as refugees, displaced people and migrant workers. The refugees
influx is increasing day by day.

(5) Not only inside Burma but even across the border on Thai soil, the
Burma Army attacked the refugees. D.K.B.A controlled by SPDC (a) SLORC Army
often attacked and plundered the No.1 Huaykhloke Refugee Camp where the
Karen refugees have resided since 1984. The No.2 Huaybone Refugee camp was
burnt down to cinders by SPDC army and DKBA.
Many Karens seeking asylum in Thailand from Huaykhloke Refugee camp No.1,
Maela camp and Mawker camp were assaulted by SPDC and DKBA using heavy
artillery in early 1998. They overran these camps, killing innocent people
and incinerating the dwellings and properties.

(6) The administration of SPDC (a) SLORC is endangering the lives of people
both inside Burma and refugees across the border. Since the SPDC (a) SLORC
military rule is getting more and more atrocious, we request the various
international (organizations, bodies, communities) to extend and intensity
their economic sanctions on Burma.

         For the People of Burma
enduring miseries and afflictions.
