Albright Plans Philippines Trip (r)

Re: Albright Plans Philipines Trip
==================================

More Hard times for SPDC ahead after the 10th anniversary of Ne Win
resignation as BSPP Party Chief?( July 23, 1998.

Well, your guess is as good as mine. But, it won't be too far fetched to
say that internal problems are now the roots of the external problems.

(1) ASEAN Ministerial meeting is planned to be held in Manila from
July 24-25. Incidently, it turned out that the meeting is
scheduled a day after the 10th anniversary of Ne Win's
resignation as BSPP party chief in 1988 ( Ne Win's resignation
came on July 23, 1988) and about 28 days earlier from the
deadline given by NLD to SPDC to convene the parliament in Burma.

In the face of the present situations in Burma coupled with the
economic turmoils in Asia, not even a single ASEAN nation will be
prepared to take the unnecessary risks to continue its "non-
interference" policy towards the Burmese military regime.

(2) Now, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will be in Philippines
from July 26-29 for two sets of talks on regional security issues
    and the Asia financial crisis.

It is expected that the present situations in Burmas will be one
of the topics planned for discussion.

(3) The present regime will still have just about three more weeks to
talk to the NLD including the other democratic forces in Burma to
    convene the parliament.

In soliderity with the NLD movements for a peaceful settlement.
