Nonviolent Action on 6-7-98 in Delhi

The coordination committee on nonviolence under Association of Peoples of
Asia (APA) organised the third prayer service at 6:30 at Raj Ghat on
6-7-98. It was the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The first
action day was the Full moon Day of Kason (11-5-98) and the second day was
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday (19-6-98). On eight selected days, the
people from India, Burma and Tibet gather at Raj Ghat (Gandhi Ashram) at
sunset. 111 candles are lit. All participants pray in Buddhist, Hindu and
Christian collectively.

Ms Niramaladesh Pandey, MP (India) and Dr. Tint Swe, MP (Burma) led the
session. A bus-full of Burmese activists participated every day. The
Committee for Nonviolent Action in Burma (CNAB) actively coordinated the
event. The next day will be on 2-10-98, the birthday of M. Gandhi.

It is requested to convey this message into Burma to encourage the inside
people to act simultaneously on those days. The coordination committee
from Kzakistan also lunches the action on those day in their country
concurrently.


7-July in India

In Delhi, Burmese pro-democracy groups visited the 8888 monastery this
morning. "Swun" was offered to 5 Burmese Buddhist monks. U Pyinwara
(ABYMU) delivered 5 precepts and a speech commemorating the 7-July
tragedy. 

A group discussion continued after lunch. It was commenced by "Poem
reading session". 7 relevant Burmese and English poems were read out. The
participants discussed on current development inside and outside Burma.
The key theme discussed was how to support the NLD's call to convene the
Parliament. NCGUB, NLD/LA, ABSDF, ABSL, DPNS, FTUB, ABYMU and NLD/LA
(Youth) participated in all sessions.

The CCN distributed the pertinent papers on 7-July including the open
letter of NCUB Chairman to SPDC Chairman. The SYCB issued a statement.

The stringers from BBC and DVB made some interviews, which will be
broadcast tonight.

In Aizawl, all groups gathered at "Daung-Yin-Byin" school and commemorated
the 7-July. NLD/LA, ABSDF, ABSL, ALP and FTUB representatives paricipated
in the event. U Than Sein, MP (NLD) acted as the Chairperson of the
function.

In Moreh, NLD/LA, ABSDF, ABSL, WRWAB and KSDF also commemorated this
event. U Bo Thaung, MP (NLD) was present.
