(1)   Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to President of  Mongolia 

YANGON, 11 July On the occasion of the anniversary of the People's Revolution
Day of  Mongolia, which falls on 11 July 1998 Senior General Than Shwe,
Chairman of the State Peace  and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar,
has sent a message of felicitations to His  Excellency Mr Nachagyn Pagabandi,
President of Mongolia.

(2)   Secretary-1 pays homage to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha  Image
 
YANGON, 10 July Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen
Khin  Nyunt this morning paid homage to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha
Image on Gyatawya  Street in Bahan Township and inspected construction of
Sasana Linkara Pariyatti Sarthintaik on  Old Yaydashay Street in Gyatawya
Ward, Bahan Township and construction of two-storey  Theindawgyi on the
precincts of Aungmyaybawdi Yeiktha Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik (Yangon) on  Shwe
Nyaung Street in Tamwaylay Ward in Bahan Township.

 Accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development
Council, the  Secretary-1 arrived at Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha
Image on Gyatawya Street at  8.30 am.

 They were welcomed there by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa,
Chairman of  Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy
Commander of Yangon  Command Col Hsan Hsint, Chairman of Work Committee for
All-round Renovation of the Maha  Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image
Commander of No 1 Military Region Lt-Col Win  Maung, members of the Board of
Trustees, Chairmen of District and Township Peace and  Development Councils,
members of the Township Union Solidarity and Development Association  and
departmental officials.

(3)   Primary schools in Mayangon Township get new buildings
 
YANGON, 10 JULY - Ceremonies to hand over new and renovated buildings of Basic
Education Primary Schools No 17 and No 11 in Mayangon Township were held at
the respective  schools this evening, attended by Chairman of Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary-1 of the  State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. 
 Present were Deputy Minister for Education BrigGen Soe Win Maung, Deputy
Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the Office of the
State Peace and Development  Council, department heads, district, township and
ward authorities, director-general of Basic  Education Department and
officials, township education officer, teachers and students and officials  of
National Land (Ygn) Co Ltd.

 At the ceremony to hand over new and renovated buildings of BEPS No 17 held
at the school on  U Aung Min Street, Ward-2, Mayangon Township, at 4.00 pm
today, Managing Director of  National Land (Ygn) Co Ltd U Win Sein explained
about construction of a new two stoley building  and renovation of other
school buildings at a cost of over K 7.5 million.

(4)   Nigerian military delegation concludes visit

YANGON, 10 July-The military delegation of Nigeria led by Maj-Gen JI Igoche of
National  War College of Nigeria left home by air today.

 The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Commandant of
the National  Defence College Maj-Gen San Aung and senior military officers.

 On behalf of Chief of Armed Forces Training, Commandant of the National
Defence College  Maj-Gen San Aung received Maj-Gen JI Igoche and party on 7
luly.

 Present were Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col
Myint Swe and  senior military officers, Military Attache of Nigeria FE Hebiti
and Consul EH Abba.

 In Anawrahta Hall of the National Defence College, Deputy Commandant Col
Myint Aung  extended greetings to the guests and gave a presentation on the
National Defence College.

 Col Ye Htut and Col Kyaw Thein of the Ministry of Defence, Police Col Ngwe
Soe Tun of the  Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Director U Aung Bwa of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and  Deputy Minister for National Planning and
Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun also gave  presentations on respective
ministries and tasks.

(5)   Commander oversees cultivation work in Yangon South District

YANGON, 10 July - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman
of  Yangon Division Peace and Development Counci1 Commander of Yangon Command
Maj-Gen  Khin Maung Than, accompanied by Secretary of Yangon Division Peace
and Development  Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and division-level departmental
officials, inspected cultivation of teak  trees and shade trees on either side
of Dalla-Twantay Road, attended ceremonies to transplant  paddy and to mark
the completion of ploughing Work in Twantay Township, met authorities and
departmental officials of Twantay, members of the Union Solidarity and
Development Association,  inspected Zibyugon Sluice Gate in Zibyugon Village
and met fisheries entrepreneurs and farmers.

(6)   Deputy Prime Minister receives Director of Premier Oil
 
YANGON, 10 July-Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Director Mr
Steve  Lowden of Premier Oil Plc and officials of England at his office at
9.30 am today.
 Present also were officials of the Government Office.

(7)   Minister for Electric Power inspects Moebye Reservoir, power station

YANGON, 10 July-Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut inspected Moebye
Reservoir and hydro-electric power station on 8 July.

 He was accompanied by Deputy Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Myint
Thein,  Commander of Pekhon Station Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Chairman of Kayah State
Peace and  Development Council Col Hla Thaung Myint, Deputy Chief Engineer of
Myanma Electric Power  Enterprise U Sein Ti and officials.

(8)   Minister for L&F receives Consultant of China International Trade  
       Promotion Committee

YANGON, 10 July- Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung
Thein  received Consultant Mr Chen Ying Guan and party of China International
Trade Promotion  Committee, Fujian Branch, People's Republic of China, at his
office at 9 am today.

 Present also were Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, Director-General U Soe Win of
the Fisheries  Department, Director-General U Maung Maung Nyunt of the
Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary  Department, Managing Director Lt-Col Khin
Maung Aye of Livestock, Feedstaff and Dairy  Products Enterprise, Head of
Office U Myint Shwe and officials.

(9)   Medicines for Defence Services Medical Unit

YANGON, 10 July Myanmar Yutani Co Ltd donated medicines for Defence Services
Medical  Units at Defence Services Medical Research and Development Committee
Office of No 2 Military  Hospital (500-bed) in Mingaladon this afternoon.

 Officials of Myanmar Yutani Co Ltd presented medicines valued at K 102,500 to
Director of  Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han who presented a
certificate of honour.

 Present were Staff Officer (Grade I) of Directorate of Medical Services and
Officiating  Commander of No 1 Base Medical Store Depot Lt-Col Thaung Htaik
and Commander of Kidney  Unit Lt-Col Khin Maung Than, senior Tatmadaw
officers, President of Yutani Industrial Co Ltd Mr  Tokio Yutani, Managing
Director of Nissho Nipro Asia Pte Ltd Mr Hideo Shiraishi and Managing
Director of Myanmar Yutani Co Ltd Mr Yoshinori Omaru.

(10)   Mayflower, Mines Ministry to jointly upgrade antimony smelter

YANGON, 10 July Mayflower Mining Enterprise and Ministry of Mines have agreed
to  upgrade an antimony smelting plant in Kalaw Township to produce from five
to 120 tons of pure  antimony daily.

 Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint yesterday visited Kalaw and supervised
plans to renovate  the plant.

 Accompanied by Deputy Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Myint Thein and
officials,  the minister heard a report on the plant's history and current
condition presented by acting  Managing Director of No 3 Mining Enterprise U
Hsan Tun and joint-renovation plans to boost  production by Managing Director
of MME U Kyaw Win.
 The minister gave suggestions.

 A foreign economic study mission comprising Chairman Mr Mark Carnegie of Easy
Call  International Company, a subsidiary of CRA Company of Australia,
Managing Director Mr Wong  Fong Fui of Boustead Company of Singapore and
Director Dr Patrick HM Loh of MTB  Malaysian Fruits Company of Malaysia also
visited the plant together with the minister.

(11)   Minister visits Kyaikwaing Youth Training School

YANGON, 10 JULY Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen
Pyi Sone  visited Kyaikwaing Youth Training School in Mayangon Township, this
afternoon.

 Accompanied by Director of Social Welfare Department Lt-Col Khin Aung and
officials, the  minister heard a report on the school's history and
organizational set-up, the situation of trainees  and other points presented
by Principal U Win Zaw with the help of charts.

 Parents should be educated to reduce rate of divorce as it is one of the main
causes of producing  vagrants and unruly youths, the minister pointed out.

 Being orphaned is another cause in pushing youths to become bad, he added.
 He cordially conversed with the trainees.

 He inspected construction of a four-storey building and sports ground.

(12)   Public Works and Asia World sign agreement

YANGON, 10 July-Public Works of the Ministry of Construction and Asia World Co
Ltd  signed an agreement to repair Pyidaungsu Road (Nawnghkio-Lashio Section)
at the Minister's  Office yesterday.

 On behalf of the Minister for Construction, Deputy Minister for Construction
Brig-Gen Thura Aye  Myint delivered an address.

 Present also were Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Director-
General of Human  Settlement and Housing Development Department U Arnt Kyaw,
Managing Director of Public  Works U Shwe Win, Chief Inspector U Soe Tint,
managing directors, Chief Engineers, Deputy  Chief Engineers, directors,
Executive Director of Asia World Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing and  officials.

 U Tun Myint Naing explained future tasks.

 U Shwe Win and U Tun Myint Naing signed an agreement and exchanged it.
