The SPDC military government carrying out genocide tactics on Karens

An anti-insurgent group was reported to have been formed and armed within
Tavoy district in Tenassarim division. The group composes of Karen
nationalities who have given up their arms. The Tavoy group is led by 1).
Saw Dah Bleh, 2). U Neh Pe 3) Saw Dee Po Lo. There is strength of 80
Karens. The SPDC instructed them to oppose KNU hard-liners, to be guided
for SPDC attacks on KNU and to take the tasks if security for villages. The
SPDC has allowed this group logging permission as one of their business.
On 1st May 1998, a KNU platoon led by commander Saw Gaw La Po raided on an
anti-insurgent group (Tha Ka Sa Pha in Burmese) camp at Myin-Khan-Baw
Village of Taung Thone Lone township in Tavoy district. On the raid the
Tavoy group third leader Saw Dee Po, brother-in-law of Saw Dah Bleh, was
dead with two others seriously injured. The were no casualties at the KNU
side, its reported.
On day after the raid, the group members of anti-insurgent group upon
growing anguished about the death of their leader bullied and molested one
Naw Heh Su widow of Saw Po Cheh (deceased) from Kamait village near
Myin-Khan-Baw village of Taung Thone Lone township. They sliced through her
neck and left her behind thinking of her death which her chidden were
addressing her wounded at their house, Tha Kha Sa Pha members refused to
the place and mercilessly killed all the three children including Naw Heh
Su, it is reported.

Forced Labour at Phoung-Daw Road repair work Hein Dar Mining project

The villagers from Hein Dar, Hein Dar Pyin, Kyat Paung Chaung, Po Letto,
Kyauktwin, Phoung Thayepu, Phoung Daw, Hein Kapi and Pya Thachoung villages
were forced labour by the LIB (280) under the command of Regiment (66) at
the Phoung Daw Road repair work in Hein Dar Mining project in Tavoy
district starting from April 1998. One hundred villagers were forced to
work daily and family had to go for work very after 10 days. Families who
could not go had to pay 300 kyats per day.

Another kind of forced labour

During February 1998, villagers from Chaung Sone Kyauk Shat, Hein Ze (36
miles) and Ye Pone were forced by unit commander Capt. Thet Naing of the
LIB (408) to work for reclaiming land for crops for the army. Reclaiming
arable lands that they were forced to work covered 20 acres in Choung Sone
village of Kyauk Shat tract. Reclaiming work had to be finished before the
rainy season.

Porter who landed on mine gets no enough compensation

On 28 March 1998, a LIB (408) platoon led by Sergeant General Sein Kyai
came t Ye Pone village and through Ye Pone village chairman U Thein Aung
they asked for two guide for security arrangement for the Ye-Tavoy rail
road. Sergeant General Sein Kyai's platoon ordered the tow guides U Kyi Win
and U Kyin Hlaing to go first and they follow them. Then U Kyi Win landed
on a mine and one of his leg was injured to near imputation. He was
hospitalized at Tavoy general hospital. For his treatment, 400 kyats were
collect from each family of altogether 60 families in Ye Pone village.
Nevertheless, only 5,000 kyats were received until now according to U Kyi
Win, it is reported.

Villagers take turns in Bridge Sentry

Nearby villagers had to take their turns the bridge sentry along the
Ye-Tavoy Rail Road. There are bridge no. (98, 99, 100, 110&111) near Ye
Pone village and two villagers had to take their duties on sentry on each
bridge. The Army told them that they had to be responsible for the whole
security of the bridge on which they took duties. The Army threatened them
to punish their villages if something happened to the bridge.
