              Six held on speed
              pill trafficking rap

              Police arrested six suspected drug traffickers and seized 70,000
              am phetamine tablets after a heavy ex change of gunfire in Mae
              Sai district, Chiang Rai, yesterday.

              Acting on a tip-off, about 20 Crime Suppression and
              Anti-Narcotics po licemen lay siege to an area near Ban Lam
              Pak Hee where smugglers nor mally deliver drugs to customers.

              They asked for a search when 10 men arrived at the scene but
              the sus pects refused and began shooting at the police.

              No one was injured. Six people, one of them a woman, were
              caught.

              They said they were hired by agents in Burma to sell amphet
              amines to Thai dealers.
