INFORMATION SHEET No-0404(I) (r)

This is a typical example of the anonymous, unsubstantiated claims coming
from who knows whom.

Can you be specific? Who is conducting interviews quite openly? Recent
reports in New York Times, Christian Science Monitor and others say the
opposite, that the climate of fear has increased, and that even those who
previously were willing to speak are now demanding anonymity in order to
avoid the virtual death sentence meted out to Daw San San.

Here is an accusation of "fabrications and distribution of false
information" as well as suggestion of motive, i.e. "to create instability
and unrest in the country." Upon what evidence are these claims based?
Where do we turn to get further information on these unsubstantiated
claims?

When you sentence a 60 year old woman to a 25 year prison term for her
peaceful speech, we all remember Mr. Leo Nichols, honorary consul for
Norway, Denmark and Switzerland. He died only three months into his
prison term (convicted of owning a fax machine without SLORC permission).
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry says Mr. Nichols was tortured prior to
death.

All the hundreds of thousands of dollars being spent by the junta on PR
services cannot buy absolution for cruelty to respected elders. And
anonymous braying about "disinformation" is the ultimate hypocrisy.
