(1)		Contract Signed to Build World Class Hotel in Kawthoung Township
		Victoria Entertainment Resort Club Ltd, a joint-venture of Merlion Inter
Trade Co Ltd of Singapore and Tetnay Company of Myanmar, has agreed today to
build a 250-room world class resort hotel and entertainment related facilities
on Noahgyi and Noahlay islands in Kawthoung Township, Taninthayi Division. 100
percent foreign investment the investor is to develop the two islands of Pulo
Jitan and Pulo Nyor locally known as Noahgyi Kyun and Noahlay Kyun in
Kawthoung Township, in Taninthayi Division for the construction and operation
of Victoria Entertainment Resort Hotel.  The two islands of Noahgyi Kyun and
Noahlay Kyun comprise of approximately 55 and 45 areas respectively.  Victoria
Entertainment Resort Club Limited will construct a 250-room international
class resort hotel and entertainment with related facilities at an investment
cost of $ 40 million.  Moreover, the development of this international class
hotel has a long list of facilities which will be installed in two phases.
The facilities include amusement and recreation related to ecotourism and
marine tourism.  Myanmar, is a land, full of diversities.  The international
travellers visiting Myanmar can enjoy the rich and diverse cultural heritage.
The numerous Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries are legacies of the
greatness of Myanmar history which dates back to the 11th Century.  Besides
the cultural and religious tourism which Myanmar is well-known,  ecotourism is
another tourism product which the country has abundance for further
development.

(2)		Seminar Participants on Field Tour
		Delegates of 20 countries, who had attended the Seminar on Alternative
Development held at the International Business Centre from 31 March to 1
April, and officials of the UN agencies totalling 29, together with Director
of the Office of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control, left Yangon for
Lashio by Tatmadaw (Myanmar Air Force) aircraft on 2 April morning.  They were
welcomed at Lashio Airport by authorities concerned . Afterwards, they
proceeded by helicopter to Point 6026 of Kokkang Region, where they conducted
soil study of poppy cultivation, national races who cultivate poppy and some
poppy plantations. Next, they went to Laukkai, where they were welcomed by
officials concerned and national leader of Kokang Region U Phon Kya Shin and
local residents. Measures being taken for the cultivation of opium substitute
crops in Kokang Region and all-round development of the region were explained.
Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai handed Y 15 million donated by the
Japanese Government to be used for clinics and medicines, schools and work for
the availability of clean water to U Phon Kya Shin, and the latter thanked the
donor.  Then, regional authorities replied to queries of the study group.  The
study group left by car for Yanlonkyaing Village at Myanmar/Chinese
Demarcation Post No 127, and observed the cultivation of opium substitute
crops along the road and at that village.  On 3 April Morning the study group
visited Lashio Market and toured Lashio and arrived back at Yangon in the
afternoon.

(3)		Construction of Sinbyushin Bridge on Chindwin River in Progress
		Sinbyushin Bridge on Chindwin River is being constructed.  The rail and road
bridge will link ChaungU Township in Sagaing Division on the east bank and
Yesagyo Township in Magway Division on the west bank.  The reinforced concrete
bridge, 4,956 feet long, will have 14 spans and 15 pillars and will be
installed with steel frames.  The main bridge is being built by Public Works
and the approach structures and the roads by Myanma Railways. Spans have been
installed up to No 5 Pier and the two motorlanes up to No 3 Pier.

(4)		Mitsubishi  to Overhaul Thayet Cement Plant Kiln
		Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan signed a contract with Myanma Ceramic
Industries on 3 April, agreeing to conduct a major overhaul of No 2 Kiln of an
MCI  cement plant in Thayet Township, Magway Division.

(5)		Seminar on Currency Risk Management  and Loan Risk Management Held at
Central Bank of Myanmar 
		The Seminar on Currency Risk Management and Loan Risk Management Dealing
with Non-performing Loans co-sponsored by the Central Bank of Myanmar and the
Dresdner Bank AG of Germany was held at the Central Bank of Myanmar in Yankin
Township on 3 April.
(6)		Eighth Jade and Gems Sale of Myanma Economic Holdings Ltd Continues
		The 8th Jade and Gems Sale of Myanma Economic Holdings Ltd continued at
Myanma Gems Emporium of No 66, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road on 3 April, yesterday.
Altogether 333 local and 31 foreign jewellery merchants attended it.

OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 3 APRIL
(A)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Group Managing
Director Mr Khoo Cheak Ngee and party of Hutchison Telecom of Hong Kong at his
office.
(B)		Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control of Myanmar Minister
for Home Affairs received Chief of European and the Middle East Section of
UNDCP Mr Joern Kristensen at his office.
