(1)		Prime Minister of Malaysia and Wife to Pay Official Visit to Myanmar 
		At the invitation of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar His Excellency Senior General Than
Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, the Prime Minister of Malaysia His Excellency
Dato? Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and Datin Seri Dr Siti Hasmah Haji Mohamad
Ali will pay an Official Visit to the Union of Myanmar in the near future.

(2)		London-Myanmar Open Commences
		London-Myanmar Open golf tournament co-sponsored by Myanmar Golf Federation
and Asian Professional Golfers Association (APGA) commenced at Bagan Resort
Golf Club in Bagan on 5 March.  Today?s top ten are Robert Huxtable of the
United States with 67 strokes, Boonchu Ruangkit of Thailand with 67, Simon
Yates of Scotland with 69, Carlos Espinosa of Mexico with 69, Greg Hanrauan of
the United States with 69, Thammanoon Sriroj of Thailand with 70, Prayad
Marksaeng of Thailand with 70, Gerry Norquist of the United States with 70,
Taimur Hussain of Pakistan with 70 and Jerry Smith of the United States with
70.  The tournament continues tomorrow.

(3)		Myanmar   Chamber  of  Commerce  and  Industry,  Vietnamese Economic
Commission Hold Discussions
		Officials of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry held discussions with
the visiting Vietnamese Economic Commission led by Mr Hoang Gia Tuong at
International Business Centre on 5 March.

(4)		Yangon to Get 20,000 More CDMA Lines
		Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and Ucom International  (Singapore) have
agreed to install 20,000 more CDMA radio telephone lines in Yangon to boost
the city?s local and international direct dialing IDD capacity.  CDMA like
auto-radio system can make direct dialing to towns in Myanmar with auto-
exchange stations and abroad.  Under the contract the Singaporean company will
supply CDMA equipment manufactured by Qualcomm Inc (USA) of America.  Another
3,000 CDMA lines are being installed in Yangon under the agreement reached in
26 August 1996.

(5)		Course on Fibre Glass Boat Building Technology Concludes
		The Course on Fibre Glass Boat Building Technology concluded at Myanmar
Rowing Federation on 5 March.  It was the first course conducted in Myanmar
with the sponsorship of FISA.  During the course, the trainees built three
single sculls and two double sculls.  Preparations are under way to build 10
single sculls, five double  sculls and five double sculls (coxless pairs).

(6)		State-Owned Cinema Privatized 
		Under the approval made at the Meeting 3/98 of the Government of the Union
of Myanmar held on 15 January 1998, the Privatisation Commission entirely
handed and sold Sein Daung Byan Cinema in Pyawbwe, Mandalay Division, to Daw
Hla Hla Myint, Htaik Family, near the cinema, Myinbet Ward, Pyawbwe, it is
learnt.

(7)		Panasonic Special Sales 7-27 March
		A ceremony to mark the opening of Panasonic special sales sponsored by
Matsushita Electric Co Ltd was held at Hotel Equatorial Yangon 0n 5 March.

OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 5 MARCH
(A)		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mr Tan Sri Ahmad
Kamil Jaafar and party at Dagon Yekitha  of the Ministry of Defence.
(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission received President of Daiwa
Institute of Research Ltd Mr Sakae Tanaka and party at his office.  They
discussed future tasks of Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd--development for
monetary market and propagation for computer technology in Myanmar.
(C)		Minister for Industry-1 received Director Mr Reinhard Krleg of Umar
Pacific Pte Ltd of Singapore at his office.
(D)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Socialist Republic of
Vietnam Industry Minister Dr Dang Vu Chu and party at the Commission?s Office.
(E)		 Officials of the Myanmar Investment Commission and Directorate of
Investment and Companies Administration  received Chairman of Machine and
Industrial Equipment Corporation of Vietnam Mr Hoang Gia Tuong and party  on 5
March.  They discussed economic and investment matters.
