(1)		Premier Goh Chok Tong Addresses Myanmar-Singapore Economic Talks
		Visiting Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong
attended the Myanmar-Singapore economic talks at the Sedona Hotel on Kaba Aye
Pagoda Road at 9 am on 25 March. Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the
State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel clarified current economic
developments in Myanmar. Next, leader of Singaporean entrepreneurs Chairman of
NTUC Fairprice Cooperatives Mr Chandra Das spoke at the discussions. Visiting
Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong then explained bilateral cooperation in
promoting trade between Myanmar and Singapore. The ministers concerned then
replied to queries on economic matters asked by Singaporean entrepreneurs. The
discussions ended at 10:20 am.
 
(2)		No. 4 Wharf of Myanmar Integrated Port Ltd of Singapore Opens at Thilawa
Port
		No 4 Wharf of Myanmar Integrated Port Ltd of Singapore was opened at Thilawa
Port in Kyauktan Township, Yangon South district, on 25 March. Minister for
Transport said soft opening of the wharf with a frontage length of 198 metres
and two 108-metre bridges was held in January 1998. The wharf, located at No 4
Plot of Thilawa Port, was built by the Singaporean company under BOT system in
accord with an agreement reached between Myanma Port Authority and the company
on 10 July 1996. The first phase of Thilawa Port Development Project includes
17 land plots each with a 200-metre frontage and 750-metre inland width. Of
the 17 plots, ten are being developed by foreign investors beginning June
1995. In addition to freight handling work, the wharf will be engaged in
production and conveying of edible oil.
 
(3)		GSMED, Palmer Resources Ltd Sign Agreement on Mineral Exploration and
Feasibility Study in Kyaikhto Township
		The Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration Department of the Ministry of
Mines and Palmer Resources Ltd of Canada on 25 March signed an agreement for
mineral exploration and feasibility study in Meyongyi and Meyongale area,
Kyaikhto Township, Mon State.
 
(4)		Myanmar Technical Delegation Leaves for China
		A Myanmar technical delegation led by Deputy Minister for 
Industry-2 left Yangon by air on 25 March to discuss production of multi-
purpose diesel engine and to study factories which are producing the diesel
engines in People's Republic of China.
 
(5)		Section 2 of Central Highway Opens
		Section 2 of Central Highway, which will link Insein Railway Station road in
Insein Township and Bogyoke Aung San Road in Lanmadaw Township, was opened on
25 March. Also 8,900 feet long highway linking Parami and Ywamakyaung roads
were opened. 
		The 11,065 -foot section one of the highway connecting Insein Railway
Station Road and Parami Road was opened on 11 February 1998. Engineering
Department (Road/Bridge) of YCDC is building the nine-mile long highway, which
will become another road linking southern and northern Yangon in addition the
two existing two highways, Insein and Bayintnaung. Passing through other
townships, Mayangon, Hline, Kamayut, Sangyoung and Ahlon, in linking the two
destinations, the highway will include bus bays, bus shelters, drainage
systems modern traffic lights, traffic signs, zebra crossings and night
reflectors.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 25 MARCH
(A)		Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received President Mr Steve
Scudamorg of PKMG Chartered Accountants and Director-General (Technical) Mr
Geoff Davis of Golden Valley Mining NL Co Ltd of Australia at his office.
(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission received President Mr Ronald L
Morris and party of Premier Petroleum Myanmar Ltd at his office.
(C)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism received Director of Sedona Hotels Group
Mr andrew Low at his office. They discussed administration of Yangon Sedona
Hotel and opening for Mandalay Sedona Hotel.
