(1)		Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong to Pay Official Visit to
Myanmar
		At the invitation of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar His Excellency Senior General Than
Shwe, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore His Excellency Mr Goh
Chok Tong will pay an Official Visit to the Union of Myanmar in the near
future.
 
(2)		Hotel Nikko Royal Lake Opens
		Hotel Nikko Royal lake, a 38-million-dollar project of Ticon and City
Reality Co Ltd of Thailand, opened on 20 March. The 303-room hotel was built
with a cent-per-cent investment of the Thai company, with the supervision of
the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Soft opening was held on 1 November 1997.
Located in the vicinity of downtown Yangon, its offers a panoramic view of the
Kandawgyi Lake and its surrounding area with Shwedagon Pagoda in the distance.
 
(3)		Six New Roads Put into Service in Yangon East District
		Six new-built roads were put into service in Dagon Myothit (North) and Dagon
Myothit (South) townships. The roads are 4,270-foot Bayintnaung, 5,900-foot
Bandoola and 2,300-foot Yazadrik in Dagon Myothit (North) and 2,970-foot
Nathamyine, 1,750-foot Kanthaya and 2,175-foot Padonma in Dagon Myothit
(South). Beside, Pyinnyatazaung Street repaved on self reliance was put back
into service in Ward 43, Dagon Myothit (North) on 20 March. The new roads will
ease traffic jams on roads linking the townships and downtown area and
contribute toward development of the district.
 
(4)		Women's Magazine to Be Published
		A coordination meeting on publishing a women's magazine by Myanmar women
writers and journalists chapter was held at Sarpay Beikman on 20 March.
 
(5)		Workshop on Pumps and Gate Valves
		A Workshop on Pumps and Gate Valves, jointly organized by the Ministry of
Agriculture and Irrigation and Han Sein Thant Engineering & Trading, agent of
KSB Pumps Ltd (India), was held at the International Business Centre on 20
March.
(6)		Seminar on Production of Teaching Aids for Agro-Based 
Education Opens
		The opening ceremony of the seminar on production of teaching aids for agro-
based education co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the UNESCO
Cultural Section for Asia and the Pacific was held at Myanmar Educational
Research Bureau on 20 March. Altogether 24 trainees from Ministry of
Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ministry of Cooperatives
and the regions covered by the project.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 20 MARCH
(A)		Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council received Privy
Councillor and Former Prime Minister General Prem Tinsulanonda at Hluttaw
building in Yangon.
(B)		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Army General Chetta Thanajaro at
Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence. They discussed friendly bilateral
relations as well as strengthening of relations between the two Armed Forces.
(C)		Minister for Health received Director (Foreign Relations) of Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Israel Mr Raphael Goren at his office.
(D)		Minister for National Planning and Economic Development received official
of International Monetary Fund Mr Nissanke Weerasinghe at his office. They
discussed development for State economic sector.
(E)		Minister for Industry-2 received Chinese business delegation led by Vice-
President of Export & Import Bank Mr Zhao Wenzhang at his office.
(F)		Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman Brig-Gen Abel received economic delegation of Franco-Thai Chamber of
Commerce based in Thailand led by Chairman Mr Christian Jallabert at his
office.
(G)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Vice-President
Mr Yves Salle de Chou and party of Alcatel Telecom (Asia Area) of France at
his office.
(H)		Deputy Minister for Health received Vice-Chancellor Professor Dom Aitkin
and party of University of Canberra of Australia at his office. They discussed
programmes of health education for children.
