US waives drugs sanctions against Pakistan and Cambodia

The United States has praised Iran's efforts to fight drug-trafficking, but
says it has not done enough to merit its exclusion from a list of countries
which are banned from receiving American aid.

In an annual report on narcotics control, the US decided to waive sanctions
for drug trafficking against Pakistan for a second year, along with Cambodia
although it said both remained large producers.

Its strongest criticism was for Burma and Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan it said each of the factions competing for power were to
blame for the fact that opium and heroin remained the largest sources of
income.
