February 26, 1998 . Concern expressed
Burma was told yesterday of Thai concerns about shots fired into the
Salween River as boats carrying members of a House panel passed by on
Saturday.
The Foreign Ministry told Hla Maung, the ambassador, of the need for
free and safe navigation on the river in line with international
practice.
The ministry was concerned about the shots fired from the Burmese bank
as members of the House Agriculture Committee looked for evidence about
logging in nearby forests.
