On February 8, while Nan Khin Htwe Myint, elected NLD representative from
Pa-an, was on her way to Rangoon to attend the Union Day celebrations held
by the National League for Democracy, the car she was traveling on was
stopped and searched at Thaton checkpoint.  After the search, noticing that
some parts of her traditional Karen dress was missing, Nan Khin Htwe Myint
raised the matter with the personnel who conducted the search.  The search
party charged her of obstructing the function of officials. The following
day, the court sentenced Nan Khin Htwe Myint to 2-years imprisonment and
she was sent to Moulmein Prison immediately to serve out her sentence
