(1)		Seminar "An Analysis and Assessment of the Current Economic Situation in
Myanmar" Continues
		The Seminar "An Analysis and Assessment of the Current Economic Situation in
Myanmar", co-sponsored by the Office of the Strategic Studies of the Ministry
of Defence and Tun Foundation Bank, continued at Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya
Road on 21 January for the fourth day. Deputy Director-General of Agricultural
Planning Department, Rector of Yangon Institute of Economics, Chairman of
First Private Bank Ltd, retired Deputy Director-General of Forest Department,
retired Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance, Governor of Central Bank of
Myanmar, retired Director-General of Agricultural Planning Department,
Director-General of Cottage Industries Department and retired Rector of
Institute of Economics took part in discussions on papers on agriculture
sector. The State Council, Managing Director of Win Trade Co Ltd and Director
of APD replied to queries on their papers. Afterwards, papers on tax
collection were submitted by Financial Consultant, retired Ambassador and
Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The seminar continues on 22
January.
 
(2)		Certificate in Business Studies (CBS), Certificate in Advanced Business
	Studies (CABS) Courses to Open
		Certificate in Business Studies (CBS) Course and Certificate in Advanced
Business Studies (CABS) Course will be conducted at Institute of Economics
(Hline Campus) on 29 January under the arrangement of Institute of Economics
(Yangon) Welfare Committee.
 
(3)		Japan Centre for International Exchange (JCIE) Officials Meet EC Members
of UMCCI
		A five-member study delegation led by Mr Makato Noda of Japan Centre for
International Exchange (JCIE) based in Tokyo met EC members of the Union of
Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry at UMCCI. Officials discussed UMCCI's
participation and ASEAN affairs.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 21 JANUARY
(A)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received President of Tokiwa Corporation Mr Naoyuki Jeff Soga and party of
Japan at his office.
(B)		Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw received Assistant UN Secretary-
General Mr Alvaro de Soto at his office. They discussed matters of mutual
interest.
(C)		Minister for Industry-2 received Deputy Director-General Mr Ichiro
Nakajima of Machinery and Information Industries Bureau of Ministry of
International Trade and Industry of Japan at his office.
(D)		Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung received Dean of Engineering
Professor Andrew Nee of National University of Singapore Delegation at his
