Independence day ceremony in Sydney



A celebration ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Burma"s Independence
day organised by the celebration committee formed with all the democratic
forces in Sydney was held at the Burwood bowling club in Burwood, Sydney,
Australia from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  It was chaired by U Daniel Aung, elected
MP for minepyin constituency and U Aye Kyaw from NLD(LA)Australia acted as
the master of ceremony. It was attended by members of Burmese organisations
and Burmese community.  U Daniel Aung, as the chair, gave a speech on the
Independence day and current situations in Burma.  Dr. Myint Soe from the
community presented his experiences in the struggle for the Independence.
U San Lin from ABSDF representing the celebration committee read out the
statement by the celebration committee. U Aung San OO, the treasurer of
ABSDF Australia,U Manh Nyunt Maung (Writer and Journalist Maung Sin
Kye'),Chairman of the Burma Writers and Journalists Association Australia,
U Kyaw Soe Moe, Secretary of the NLD(LA)Australia read out their respective
organisation's statements and presented the views on the Independence day.
In the celebration committee' statement, the following demands were called
upon the current military junta : (1) to release all prisoners in every
part of the country who are being persecuted and unjustly imprisoned
because of their political beliefs and activities, (2) to validate the
results of the General Elections of 1990, and (3) to urgently arrange for
tripartite talks with a view to bringing genuine peace to the country.
