(1)		Footballs Presented by PRC
		Under the programme for strengthening relations between two countries,
Ambassador of People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong handed 150 footballs
for footballers of Myanmar Defence Services to Chairman of Defence Services
Sport and Physical Administrative Committee Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint
at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence on 26 December.
 
(2)		Chief Representative of Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Received
		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received Chief Representative Mr Masaki Furuya and party of Yasuda Fire &
Marine Insurance Co Ltd of Japan at his office.
 
(3)		Ceremony to Honour Those Who Participated and Assisted in Myanmar IT
Exhibition 97 and Conference
		A ceremony to honour those who participated and assisted in holding the
Myanmar Information Technology Exhibition 97 and Conference under the
sponsorship of Myanma Industrial Development Committee was held at Mya Yeik
Nyo Royal Hotel on 26 December. The outstanding feature of the exhibition is
the participation of the Government's ministries such as the Ministry of
Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry-2, the Ministry of Energy,
the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Ministry of Cooperatives
and private enterprises such as Asia World Co, Hi-Tech Co, Zaykabar Co, MGS
Beverages Co, Soe Electric, Rainbow Co, South Pacific Co and Starco Co. 
 
		The exhibition was the first of its kind because various booths were opened
with the participation of State owned, private and foreign enterprises.
Success was also achieved in holding the Myanmar Information Technology
Conference at the Hotel Equatorial with the aim of attracting the influx of
foreign investment into the industrial sector. The papers submitted by the
departments at the Conference were of high standard and could provide facts
about the industrial sector inside Myanmar for representatives of foreign
companies and industrial zones. It is the first exhibition held in conjunction
with the conference.
 
(4)		Master's Degree and Diploma Courses on Medicine to Open 2 January
		Master's degree and diploma courses on medicine for 1997-98 academic year
will open at the universities under the Medical Science Department on 2
January 1998. Those eligible for the courses are to attend the opening
ceremony to be held in the Institute of Nursing, Yangon, the same day. Those
eligible to attend the Institute of Medicine-1 the Institute of Medicine-2,
the Institute of Dental Medicine, the Institute of Paramedical Sciences and
the Institute of Pharmacy are to report to the respective universities and
those eligible for the Institute of Medicine, Mandalay, to the Medical Science
Department without fail during office hours on 1 January 1998, it is learnt.
 
(5)		Korean Women's Association Donates K 1m to MMCWA
		The cash donation ceremony of Korean Women's Association to Myanmar Maternal
and Child Welfare Association was held at the office of MMCWA in Yangon on 26
December. It was attended by officials of Korean Women's Association and
executives of MMCWA.
 
(6)		43rd Anniversary of Islamic Religious Affairs Council Held
		The 43rd Anniversary of Islamic Religious Affairs Council and 5 December
Trust Fund Day were observed with ceremony at Karaweik Hall on 26 December.
Present on the occasion were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister
for Religious Affairs, Director-General of Department for Promotion and
Propagation of the Sasana, Chairman of Myanmar Islamic Religious Affairs
Council and EC members and guests.
 
(7)		Cruiseliner MV Silver Wind Arrives with 252 Tourists
		Under the arrangement of Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services and Silversea
Cruises company of United States of America, Cruiseliner mv Silver Wind
arrived Yangon River at 1.30 pm on 26 December with 252 tourists. The visitors
toured places of interest in downtown Yangon and Shwedagon Pagoda at 2.30 pm.
