(1) 		Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Exhibition and Competition Opens
		The opening ceremony of the 1997 Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Exhibition and
Competition was held at Myepadethakyun in Bahan Township on 16 December. The
exhibition and competition was held with the following objectives--to
cultivate the interest of the citizens in the cultivation of vegetables,
fruits and flowers which will eventually lead to commercial production as the
technology is widely adopted; to bring about new and improved varieties of
vegetables, fruits and flowers; to make available enough amount of high
quality produce for internal use and to export the surplus to earn more
foreign exchange. Moreover by employing the technology gained from the fair,
some of the citizens may be able to partially complement the foreign exchange
earning of the state, through their active participation in commercial
production ventures. The exhibition will open to public from 8 am to 5 pm till
25 December. Vegetables and flower are available at the exhibition. Various
types of fruit, vegetables and flowers are on display at the exhibition.
 
(2)		46 More Exchange Arms for Peace
		Forty-six more members of various armed groups exchanged arms for peace at
the respective military command areas from 1 to 28 November. Those who
exchanged arms for peace were from the All Burma Student Democratic Front,
Kayin National Union Brigade 1, 4, 6, Chin National Army and Arakan Liberation
Party. They were warmly welcomed by officials who are rendering assistance.
 
(3)		MoU to Grow Cashew on Commercial Basis Signed
		A Memorandum of Understanding to form Myanmar-Singapore Plantation Ltd
between Myanmar Perennial Crops Enterprise and Myanmar Plantation Singapore
Pte Ltd of Singapore was signed at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation
on 16 December. Myanmar-Singapore Plantation Ltd will grow cashew on
commercial basis .

received President of Kiseki Corporation of Singapore Mr K Inoue and party at
his office.
 
(B)		Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut received Manager of Marubeni
Corporation of Japan Mr H Sagara and party at his office.
 
(C)		Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than received Chairman of Myanmar
Economic Holdings Ltd Maj-Gen Than Oo and President Director Mr Hashim and
party of PT Semen Cibinong of Indonesia at his office.
 
(D)		Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received Manager of Marubeni
Corporation of Japan Mr H Sagara and party at his office.
