(1)		Orbis International Aircraft
 
		Orbis is treating eye patients in Myanmar from 15 November till 6 December.
The fifth Orbis programme in Myanmar is conducted in partnership with the
Ministry of Health and the Ophthalmological Society of Myanmar. It is
training Myanmar doctors and nurses.
 
(2)		Efforts Under Way for Early Completion of Chindwin River Bridge
(Yesagyo)
 
		The road and railroad bridge spanning the Chindwin will link ChaungU
Township in Sagaing Division and Yesagyo Township in Magway Division when
completed. The reinforced concrete frame bridge will be 4,956 feet long and
64.29 feet wide. It will have 14 spans and 15 pillars. On completion the
bridge will help develop multi-sectors of the eastern and western banks of
the river.
 
(3)		Coordination Committee 2 of SEA-ME-WE 3 Submarine Cable Holds Third
Meeting
 
		The Coordination Committee 2 of South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe
3 Submarine Cable held its third meeting at the International Business Centre
on 2 December. The managing director and officials of Myanma Posts and
Telecommunications under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and
Telegraphs, representatives of Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Sri
Lanka, India and Indonesia and representatives of three companies from France
and Japan. The meeting will be held till 5 December.
 
(4)		Minister Elaborates Benefits of Diploma Courses at MIT
		The opening ceremony of Technology Diploma Courses and English Diploma
Course of the Mandalay Institute of Technology and Full-time Computer Science
Diploma Course of Mandalay Institute of Computer Science and Technology was
held in the Assembly Hall there on 2 December. The Technology Diploma Course
is a two-year course which admits qualified candidates who have passed the
Basic Education High School Examination in A list. Successful trainees of the
diploma course will be admitted to YIT and MIT. Those who did not gain high
marks and had no chance to be admitted to the Institutes of Technology have
the second chance to join the institutes, It will be the first win to benefit
the students of Technology Diploma Course.
		At the same time, the parents who were not happy because of insufficient
marks of their children in the BEHS Exam would be happy and as such, It will
be the second win to benefit the parents. The number of industrialists has
increased due to development projects implemented by the State. When the
students obtain diploma certificates, the industries will get qualified
engineers. It will be the third win to benefit the industrialists. Since the
courses are conducted for the welfare of the government employees, it will be
the fourth win to benefit the faculty members and employees. The State will
be able to develop human resource by turning out engineers from among
ordinary persons. It will be the fifth win for the State. In connection with
Computer Science Diploma Course, the course is being conducted for the
employees of the Ministry of Science and Technology and those who passed the
course with credit will be admitted to the Master of Computer Science course.
 
(5)		Six Armed Group Members Exchange Arms for Peace
		In the area of Coastal Region Command, pvt Than Aye of BCP Myeik District
exchanged arms for peace at the regional Tatmadaw battalion on 15 October. In
the area of Southern Command, pvts Tun Myint and Sein Ngwe of No 209
Battalion of ABSDF exchanged arms for peace at the regional Tatmadaw
battalion in Waw on 9 November and cpl Saw Ta Hsay and pvts Myint Soe and
Chit Win (a) Saw Kyi Po of No 7 Battalion of No 3 Brigade of KNU at the
regional Tatmadaw battalion in Minlan Thanseik on 9 and 10 November.
Officials of Tatmadaw battalions concerned warmly welcomed the armed group
members and provided necessary assistance to them.
 
(6)		Staff Officer Leaves for Singapore
		Staff Officer of Sports and Physical Institute left Yangon to attend the
4th Youth Olympic Education Programme Seminar to be held in Singapore from 3
to 6 December. It was sponsored by International Olympic Committee and
Singapore Olympic Committee. Youth delegates from IOC member nations will
participate.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 2 DECEMBER
(A)		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Assistant
Administrator of UNDP and Asia and Pacific Bureau Regional Director Dr Nay
Tun at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence.
 
(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral 
Maung Maung Khin received Chairman of Hocheng Corporation Mr Chiu Chun Jung
and party at his office.
 
(C)		Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe received Representative Mr Wei Xi
Wang of Bejing Machinery Import and Export Corporation Ltd of the People's
Republic of China and party at his office.
 
(D)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received
Chairman of Daimex Inc Mr Shunichi Takenaga at his office.
 
		The Minister also received Managing Director Mr Kwang Seong Oh and party of
Daewoo Corporation of Republic of Korea at his office.
 
(E)		Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Abel
received the visiting Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations
Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme
Headquarters and Regional Director of the Asia and Pacific Region Bureau Dr
Nay Tun at his office.
	
(F)		Minister for Energy U Khing Maung Thein received officials of Italian
Thai Co of Thailand and PTT led by Vice-President Mr Masahiro Sakabe of
Marubeni Corporation of Japan at his office.
 
(G)		Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut received Managing Director
Mr Tae Chul Shin and party of Myanmar-Daewoo Corporation at his office.
