KAREN DEATHS: About 2,500 Karens were sent back to Myanmar in an
operation said to have caused the deaths of a baby and a 45-year-old man
on Tuesday. 

The Bangkok Post reported on Wednesday that the Karen Refugee Committee
had called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to act
against Thai officials over the deaths of the two Karens. 

But the Thai authorities said they treated the Karens as illegal
immigrants, not refugees.
