Seven future tasks of the Red Cross



Gen. Tin U  "spoke of the aim of Red Cross to carry out relief tasks for the
victims
of natural disasters, and  noted that one of the seven future tasks of Red
Cross is to train the members to be ready to  discharge duties as auxiliary
force for maintenance of peace and tranquillity of the nation in addition  to
their primary duty of providing health care services."

So now the Red Cross becomes another police force in a country that is
already drowning in uniforms?

K 700,000 first aid kits donated to townships in No 1  Military Region
 
YANGON, .27 Oct Maha Danan Monetary Service and General Economic Cooperative
 Society Limited presented 1,097 first aid kits valued at K 700,000 to the
seven townships in  Yangon Division No 1 Military Region today.

 The donation ceremony at the Institute of Medicine 2 in North Okkalapa
Township was  attended-by Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister  at the Office of Prime Minister Col Pe
Thein, Chairman of Yangon Division Law and Order  Restoration Council
Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Vice-Chairman Deputy  Commander BrigGen
Thura Myint Maung, Officer on Special Duty at the State Law and Order
 Restoration Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint, departmental officials, the
Commander of No 1  Military Region, the chairman of Yangon East District Law
and Order Restoration Council,  township authorities, teachers, pupils,
members of Union Solidarity and Development Association,  Red Cross and
Auxiliary Fire Brigades.

 Chairman of Maha Danan Monetary Service and General Economic Cooperative Ltd
Dr Tin  Maung Tun and Managing Director Dr Ni Ni Thwin presented the first
aid kits to respective  townships.

 Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Tin Oo said the worth of donors' goodwill
cannot be evaluated  with the value of donations, and benefits for those who
use these donations are also invaluable.

 Red Cross youths' spirit of sacrifice in the bomb explosion at Maha Pasana
Cave where Buddha's  Tooth Relic wast being revered on 25 December last year
proved their conviction for realization of  this aim, he said, adding that
Red Cross youth Maung Than Htaik sacrificed his life in the bomb  explosion.
 He noted that Maung Than Htaik's spirit of sacrifice was exemplary and
worthy of honour, and that  today, the number of youths imbued with such
conviction is increasing.

 He also lauded ward authorities and Auxiliary Fire Brigade members who are
working hard for  maintenance of peace and tranquillity, and thanked the
donors for presenting first aid. kits
 for the auxiliary national defence forces of the nation.

 Of the 1,097 first aid kits donated by Maha Danan Monetary Service and
General Economic  Cooperative Society Ltd, 700 will be provided to Red Cross
Brigades of seven townships in No 1  Military Region, 84 to USDAs, 42 to
Auxiliary Fire Brigades, 14 to Township Law and Order  Restoration Councils
and 277 to primary schools.
