(1)   Vice-Premier of State Council of PRC arrives
 
YANGON, 27 Oct-At the invitation of the member of the State Law and Order
Restoration  Council and Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin,
goodwill delegation led by  Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's
Republic of China Mr Wu Bangguo arrived here  by air this morning on an
officials visit to the Union of Myanmar.

 Vice-Premier Mr Wu Bangguo and delegation were welcomed at Yangon
International Airport by  member of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council and Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral  Maung Maung Khin, Minister
for National Planning and Economic Development BrigGen Abel, Minister for
Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister at the  Office of the Deputy Prime
Minister and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen  Maung
Maung, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Thein Win, Chairman of Yangon Division
Law and  Order Restoration Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin
Maung Than,  officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of the
People's Republic of China Mr Liang  Dong and Embassy officials.

 Vice-Premier Mr Wu Bangguo was accompanied by Minister for Transport Mr
Huang Zherfdongs  Vice-Minister for the State Planning Commission Mr Ye Qing,
Vice- Minister for the State  Economic and Trade Commission Mr Zhang Wule,
Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council  Mr Shi Xiushi, Vice-Minister
for the State Commission for Restructuring Economic System Mr  Hong Hu,
Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province Mr Liu Jing, Assistant Minister for Foreign
Affairs  Mr Yang Wenchang, Assistant Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic
Cooperation Mr Sun  Guangxiang, Vice-Governor of the Bank of China Mr Gao
Dezhu and other senior officials.

(2)   Deputy Prime Minister hosts dinner in honour of  Vice-Premier of the
State 
       Council of PRC
 
YANGON, 27 Oct Member of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Deputy
Prime  Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin hosted dinner in honour of
Vice-Premier of the State  Council of the People's Republic of China Mr Wu
Bangguo and party at Zeya Thiri Beikhman on  Konemyinttha at 7 pm today.

 It was attended by Secretary- I of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt, Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, member of  the State Law and Order
Restoration Council Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun, members of  the
State Law and Order Restoration Council, ministers, the Attorney-General, the
Yangon Mayor,  senior Tatmadaw officers, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs,
heads of departments Ambassador  of the People's Republic of China and
Embassy staffs.

 Before and during the dinner, vocalists entertained the guests.

 After the dinner, Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture
entertained the guests with  cultural dances.

(3)   Technology Myanmar '97 Exhibition commences
 
YANGON, 27 Oct - Technology Myanmar '97 F.Exhibition, co-sponsored by Myanma
 Industrial Development Committee and Munich International Trade Fairs Pte
Ltd (MMI) of  Germany, was opened at the Convention Centre (Tatmadaw Hall) on
U Wisara Road this morning.

 Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo,
Vice-Chairman of  MIDC Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and Managing
Director Mr Reinhold  Unterburger of MITF Pte Ltd formally opened the
exhibition.

 Present also were members of the State Law and Order Restoration Council,
ministers, Chairman  of MIDC Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Lt-Gen
Myint Aung and committee members, the  Chief Justice, the Attorney-General,
the Mayor, senior military officers, work committee members,  members of
various sub-committees, members of the committee for organizing the
exhibition,  deputy ministers, personnel from internal and external technical
organizations, local and foreign  journalists, ambassadors, personnel of UN
agencies and guests.

(4)   Deputy Premier Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin  receives Vice Premier of 
        PRC Mr Wu Bangauo
 
YANGON, 27 Oct Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received
 Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Mr Wu
Bangguo at  International Business Centre at 3 pm today.

 Minister for Commerce Lt-Gen Tun Kyi, Minister for National Planning and
Economic  Development Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw,
Minister at Office of  Deputy Prime Minister Secretary of Myanmar Investment
Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung  and Director-General of Protocol Department
Thura U Aung Htet were also present.

 Vice-Premier Wu was accompanied by Minister for Transport Mr Huang Zhendong
and  Ambassador of PRC Mr Liang Dong.
Later, the two deputy premiers discussed matters of mutual interest and
economic cooperation at  IBC.

 With Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin were Minister Lt-Gen Tun Kyi, Minister
Brig-Gen Abel,  Minister U Ohn Gyaw, Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister
for Communications, Posts and  Telegraphs U Soe Tha, Minister for Transport
Lt-Gen Thein Win, Minister for Finance and  Revenue BrigGen Win Tin and heads
of departments.

 With Mr Wu were Minister for Transport Mr Huang Zhendong, Vice-Minister for
the State  Planning Commission Mr Ye Qing, Vice-Minister for the State
Economic and Trade Commission  Mr Zhang Wule, Deputy Secretary-General of the
State Council Mr Shi Xiushi, Vice-Minister for  the State Commission for
Restructuring Economic System Mr Hong Hu, Ambassador Mr Liang  Dong,
Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province Mr lviu Jing, Assistant Minister for Foreign

 Preferential loan

 Minister Brig-Gen Abel and Assistant Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic
Cooperation Mr  Sun Guangxiang signed the Framework Agreement between the
Government of the Union of  Myanmar and the Government of the People's
Republic of China on a Preferential Loan with  interest subsidized by the
Chinese Government to be provided by China for Myanmar.

 Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin hosted dinner in honour of Vice-Premier Wu and
goodwill  delegation at Zeya Thiri Beikman.

(5)   K 700,000 first aid kits donated to townships in No 1  Military Region
 
YANGON, .27 Oct Maha Danan Monetary Service and General Economic Cooperative
 Society Limited presented 1,097 first aid kits valued at K 700,000 to the
seven townships in  Yangon Division No 1 Military Region today.

 The donation ceremony at the Institute of Medicine 2 in North Okkalapa
Township was  attended-by Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister  at the Office of Prime Minister Col Pe
Thein, Chairman of Yangon Division Law and Order  Restoration Council
Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Vice-Chairman Deputy  Commander BrigGen
Thura Myint Maung, Officer on Special Duty at the State Law and Order
 Restoration Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint, departmental officials, the
Commander of No 1  Military Region, the chairman of Yangon East District Law
and Order Restoration Council,  township authorities, teachers, pupils,
members of Union Solidarity and Development Association,  Red Cross and
Auxiliary Fire Brigades.

 Chairman of Maha Danan Monetary Service and General Economic Cooperative Ltd
Dr Tin  Maung Tun and Managing Director Dr Ni Ni Thwin presented the first
aid kits to respective  townships.

 Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Tin Oo said the worth of donors' goodwill
cannot be evaluated  with the value of donations, and benefits for those who
use these donations are also invaluable.

 He spoke of the aim of Red Cross to carry out relief tasks for the victims
of natural disasters, and  noted that one of the seven future tasks of Red
Cross is to train the members to be ready to  discharge duties as auxiliary
force for maintenance of peace and tranquillity of the nation in addition  to
their primary duty of providing health care services.

 Red Cross youths' spirit of sacrifice in the bomb explosion at Maha Pasana
Cave where Buddha's  Tooth Relic wast being revered on 25 December last year
proved their conviction for realization of  this aim, he said, adding that
Red Cross youth Maung Than Htaik sacrificed his life in the bomb  explosion.
 He noted that Maung Than Htaik's spirit of sacrifice was exemplary and
worthy of honour, and that  today, the number of youths imbued with such
conviction is increasing.

 He also lauded ward authorities and Auxiliary Fire Brigade members who are
working hard for  maintenance of peace and tranquillity, and thanked the
donors for presenting first aid. kits
 for the auxiliary national defence forces of the nation.

 Of the 1,097 first aid kits donated by Maha Danan Monetary Service and
General Economic  Cooperative Society Ltd, 700 will be provided to Red Cross
Brigades of seven townships in No 1  Military Region, 84 to USDAs, 42 to
Auxiliary Fire Brigades, 14 to Township Law and Order  Restoration Councils
and 277 to primary schools.

(6)   Over $ 4.5m realized at Mid-Year Myanma Gems  Emporium

YANGON, 27 Oct Pearl lots were sold through competitive bidding at the
Mid-Year Myanma  Gems Emporium on the final day today.

 Chairman of Myanma Gems Emporium Central Committee Minister for Mines Lt-Gen
Kyaw Min  attended today's sales.

 Altogether 110 pearl lots fetched over US $1.04 million.

 The proceeds of the seven-day gems emporium totalled over US $ 4.5 million.

(7)   Mingaladon Garden City booth opens at Technology  Myanmar '97

YANGON, 27 Oct Booth of Mingaladon Garden City Project was opened at
Technology  Myanmar '97 this morning attended by Secretary-2 of the State Law
and Order Restoration  Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, ministers and senior Tatmadaw
officers.
Managing Director U Khin Shwe of Zaykaba Co Ltd and Director-General U Arnt
Kyaw of  Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development formally
opened the booth.

 U Khin Shwe briefed the Secretary-2 and guests on salient points of the
project and replied to  queries raised by them.

 The booth displays design, construction purification, drainage, go course,
city development and  other technologies.

(8)   Myanmar officials meet Chinese entrepreneurs

YANGON, 27 Oct Myanmar officials and Chinese economic entrepreneurs held a
discussion  on Myanma economy, investment and trade at the Ministry of
National Planning and Economic  Development this afternoon.
 First, Director-General of Directorate of Investments and Companies
Administration U Maung  Maung Yi delivered an address.

 Director-General of Foreign Economic Relations Department U Soe Lin briefed
them on progress  of Myanma economy, Director of Directorate of Investments
and Companies Administration U  Thin Maung on investment opportunities in
Myanmar, Deputy Director-General of Trade  Department U Nyunt Aye on Myanma
trade administration and economic affairs and President of  Myanmar Chamber
of Commerce and Industries U Khin Maung Yi on development of private  sector
here.

 Then, Myanmar officials replied to the questions raised by the Chinese
entrepreneurs.

(9)   Minister for Energy receives Ambassador of Brazil

YANGON, 27 Oct Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received Ambassador of
the  Federative Republic of Brazil Mr Avnaido Carrilho and General Manager of
Copel Energy Group  Mr C J Zimmermann and party at his office at 9.30 am
today.

 Director-General of Energy Planning Department U Soe Myint was also present.

(10)   Minister for Energy receives Indonesian Consortium  Group

YANGON, 27 Oct Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received Indonesian
Consortium  Group led by President Director of Energy Nusantara Group Mr
Farid Prawiranegara,  accompanied by Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia
Maj-Gen (Police) A Poerwanto  Lenggono, at his office at 3 pm today.

 Director-General of Energy Planning Department U Soe Myint was also present.

(11)   K 10,000 for MWJA

YANGON, 27 Oct - In memory of their parents U Tin Than (Writer Ngwe Moung)
and Daw  Than Hla, Lt-Col Maung Maung Oo (Writer and film director Tin Than
Oo) and Daw San San Thu  presented K 10,000 to Myanmar Writers and
Journalists Association and another K 10,000 by  Mayangon Township WJA for
use at ceremony to pay respects to aged writers.

 The donors presented the cash to officials at MWJA today.
