(1)		Yuzana Hotel Hails Anniversary of State Law and Order 	 Restoration
Council 

		The inauguration ceremony of Yuzana Hotel under the Zagawa Business Centre
Project, jointly constructed by Department of Human Settlement and Housing
Development of the Ministry of Construction and Yuzana 
Construction Co Ltd on mutual benefit, was held at the hotel at No. 130,
Shwegondaing Street, Bahan Township on 13 September. At modern Yuzana Centre,
50% of the centre is hotel, 25% super market and 25% office. The Yuzana Hotel
includes 198 rooms and business centre, function hall, restaurant, fitness
centre, beauty salon, karaoke hall, jacuzzi, massage parlour, meeting hall,
souvenir shop, ATM machine, limousine service and others.

(2)		Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex, New Building of Primary 	School No. 9
Inaugurated in Kamayut Township

		Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex was inaugurated in Ward No 4, Kamayut
Township on 13 September along with the opening ceremony of new building of
Kamayut Township Primary School No 9. Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex is
located on Bayinnaung Road, Ward No 4, Kamayut Township. Ward No 4 was a
residential ward without systematic drainage, water supply and sanitation
systems before and majority of its residents could not afford to construct
good buildings. Under coordination meetings of DHSHD and residents of the
ward held in October last year, the department and Yuzana Construction Group
jointly undertook construction of four-unit apartment buildings on 16 plots.
The residents will be resettled in the buildings next month. While
implementing the hut-to-apartment project and projects to upgrade residential
wards, 
Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development is also upgrading the
infrastructure around project areas to possess characteristics of upgraded
wards. Therefore, Yuzana undertook construction of a two-storey reinforced
concrete type building for the school which is next to the project area. The
new school building has five classrooms, one hall, one computer unit, one
office for school head and teachers? common room.
 
(3)		Daewoo Donates K 20 Million as Relief Aid
		Chairman of Daewoo Corporation Mr Woo Choong Kim donated K 20 million for
relief and resettlement work in Bago and Ayeyawady Divisions. On behalf of Mr
Woo Choong Kim, Daewoo Managing Director in Yangon Mr T C Shin presented K 20
million to Minister for National Planning and Economic Development.


(4)		Two Modern Apartment Buildings Inaugurated in Ahlon Town	ship
		Mingala Sinmin Modern Apartment Building and Thiri Mingala Apartment
Building built by Shwe Bayin Construction Co Ltd and Asia World Construction
Co Ltd in cooperation with the Department of Human Settlement and Housing
Development were inaugurated in Ahlon Township on 13 September. Shwe Bayin
Construction Co Ltd entered into contract with the DHSHD to undertake Mingala
Sinmin Modern Apartment Building Project covering construction  of five
eight-unit six-storey/seven-storey apartment buildings and one
eight-storey/ten-storey shopping complex on 1.719-acre plot. The project
began in May last year.

		Thiri Mingla Housing Project was undertaken by Asia World Construction Co
Ltd. Four four-unit six-storey apartment buildings and one six-unit
six-storey building with modern showrooms and apartments were constructed
beginning April last year.

(5)		Acetylene Factory launched at Ahlon Shipyard
		The Ministry of Transport formally inaugurated the newly constructed
Acetylene Factory at Ahlon Shipyard on 14 September. The factory was
purchased under contract from Yunnan Machinery Import-Export Corporation
(YMIEC) for IWT shipyards and built by the Technical Services of the Ministry
of Industry-2.

		Technical Services took seven months, beginning 9 February 1997, to
complete the construction of the factory. It will produce 200 (40-litre)
cylinders of liquefied gas per day. As all the IWT ships use 100 cylinders
per day, the remaining 100 cylinders will be distributed to organizations
including those under the ministry.

(6)		Hsin-haing 4 pusher-tug launched

		The medium sized Hsin-haing 4 pusher-tug, built at Dalla Shipyard under an
agreement between the Inland Water Transport and the Machinery Import and
Export Corporation of Yunnan Province (YMC), People?s Republic of China, was
launched at the shipyards on 14 September. A total of 22 ships including five
ships, three ferry boats, ten 250-ton cargo boats and four medium sized
pusher-tugs have been built since 1990.

(7)		Pazundaung Modern Housing Complex inaugurated

		A Modern Housing Complex, constructed by the Department of Human Settlement
and Housing Development and Myanma Ahla Construction Group on mutual benefit,
was inaugurated on upper Pazundaung Road on 14 September. The 3.147-acre
project lies between upper Pazundaung Road and Leikkan Street in Ward-7,
Pazundaung Township.

		The project site was the area occupied by squatters, and there were 62
houses. Under the hut-to-highrise system, the project was implemented from 18
April 1996, to 17 April 1998. The project covers four six-unit six-storey
buildings (144 apartments), one eight-unit six-storey building (48
apartments), one ten-unit six-storey building (60 apartments), one four-unit
six-storey building (24 apartments), one six-unit eight-storey building (48
apartments), one ten-unit 
eight-storey building (80 apartments) and one 12-storey commercial building.
In the first phase of the project, former owners were resettled in 144
apartments.

(8)		ENT Specialists of Stanford University Arrive

		A five-member team of specialists from the Stanford University Medical
Centre of the United States arrived Yangon on 14 Septemebr. They will treat
ear, nose and throat patients and lecture at people?s and military hospitals
in Yangon, Mandalay and PyinOoLwin during their stay from 14 to 27 
September. 
		The team includes Professor Willard E Fee, Jr, MD (Head and neck tumor
surgery), Dr Joseph Robertson, MD (Otology, neuro-otology and skull base
surgery), Dr Maisie Shindo, MD (Endoscopic sinus surgery, laryngology and
free flaps), Dr Peter Martin, MD (Head and neck and general 
otolaryngology) and Ms Karen Hanami, medical administrator and trip
coordinator.

(9)		Myanmar Journalists Attend ASEAN Workshop in Brunei

		Deputy Chief Editor and Editor of The New Light of Myanmar, News and
Periodicals Enterprise, the Ministry for Information, will attend
Pre-production Workshop of News Editors in Brunei Darussalam. The workshop is
under the ASEAN TV news exchange programme.

(10)		Minister of Women?s Affairs of Indonesia Arrives

		Minister of Women?s Affairs of Indonesia Madame Mien Sugandhi and goodwill
delegation arrived on 14 September.

(11)		Agreement on Purchase of Cable-stayed Superstructure

		An agreement on purchase of cable-stayed superstructure was signed by
Public Works of the Ministry of Construction and China Shipbuilding Trading
Co Ltd at Traders Hotel on Sule Pagoda Road on 14 September.
