(1)		Five more double-deckers added to Inland Water Transport

		Five more double-deckers were transferred to Inland Water Transport  on
1st. September. They were the last batch of boats to arrive in Myanmar
  under the second 40-million-dollar contract signed between Yunnan Machinery
Import and Export Corporation (YMC) of the People?s Republic of China and
IWT. IWT has bought 72 boats from or built under contract of PRC to date
since the present  Government took over the State responsibilities. It has
also built another 31 under the  State?s programme.

		?Gradual upgrading of the standard of boats of IWT? is included in the
advice given by Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council
Senior General Than Shwe for development of the transport sector, stated the
Minister for Transport. Each boat, 45 metres long and 8.5 metres wide, has a
capacity to carry 24 passengers in its air-conditioned first class cabins and
another 300 on deck. Each has a depth of 2.3 metres and a draught of 1.6
metres and a crusing speed of 11 nautical miles per hour.

		The boats, installed with advanced facilities, have the capacity to carry
30 metric tons of freight.

(2)		MEB open basic computer, monetary management courses

		Basic Computer Course No 3/97 and Monetary Management Course No 2/97 of
Myanma Economic Bank were opened at MEB Branch 1 on 1 September in Yangon. 

		The Minister for Finance and Revenue said in his opening address to the
trainees to understand the importance of computer technology and 
monetary management in banking and stressed the need to know their job 
thoroughly for development of modern banking system.

		He said installation of computers contributes to efficiency and urged
trainees to be keen on the lectures to be able to properly apply the systems.
The duration of the basic computer course is one month and that of the 
monetary management course two weeks.

		OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 1 SEPTEMBER

(A)		Secretary - 1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council

(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral 
Maung Maung Khin received Chairman of Special Whisky Group of Companies 
Mr Phitsanu Phataraprasit and party of Thailand at his office.

(C)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism Lt-Gen Kyaw Ba received 
Managing Director of Tourist Thailand Ltd. Mr Itthiphon Khemmarat at his
office.

(D)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism Lt-Gen Kyaw Ba received Chairman of
Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agent (MATTA) Mr Ahmed Kamil Abdulla
and party at his office.

(E)		Minister for National Planning and Economic Development 
Bri-Gen Abel received Secretary-General of ASEAN Mr Dato Ajit Singh at his
office. They discussed AFTA affairs.

(F)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received
Special Project General Manager of Adsteam Marine Co. Ltd Mr. Peter Robertson
and party at Myanmar Investment Commission Office. 

(G)		Minister for Health U Saw Tun received Manager of Daewoo Co 
Mr Yong Hwan Kim and party at his office.

(H)		Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thaung received 
Managing Director of Fujian Overseas Chinese Industrial (Group) Corporation 
Mr Zheng Lai Xing and party at his office.
