(1)	Yadana Offshore Natural Gas Project
************************************************

The project to sell natural gas from Yadana Natural Gas Project to Thailand
covers two main sectors-production and transportation. The production sector
includes Rig 1 and Rig 2 set up at Yadana Offshore Block. It is selected to
produce natural gas from one vertical well and six horizontal wells from each
rig. Relevant Authorities started spud-in at the first well of Rig 2. August
28th spud-in marked the beginning of operation at the first rig to drill down
to 4,700 feet. The 36-inch pipeline has been laid 40 miles inland to send
natural gas from Yadana Project to Thailand. It is to be laid 216 miles
offshore and has been laid 10 miles at sl1allow-sea area in March this year.
Laying of the remaining part by SEMAC-1 is scheduled for completion within
three months.


(2)	Heroin, Raw Opium Seized in Mandalay, Nawgnhkio

Mandalay Anti-Drug Squad seized 2.448 kilos of heroin from Ma Khin Ma Ma on
33rd Street ( between 81st and 82nd Streets ) in Mandalay on 15 August
evening. The Heroin was put in 99 plastic soap containers which were covered
with snacks and put in a teak trunk. A team comprising Lashio Anti-Drug
Squad, Defence Services Intelligence agents and Pyin Oo Lwin Railway police
on 7 August seized 2.06 l 8 kilos of raw opium from Shin Kuna, or Sai Win, a
passenger on a Lashio-Mandalay train at Nawnghkio station. The team seized l
56,000 tablets of Metamphetamine weighing 12.7374 kilos, from an Isuzu
Trooper pick-up truck at Supaung checkpoint at Nawnghkio on 12 August. The
tablets were kept in a hidden compartment in the petrol tank.


(3)	First Myanmar IT Exhibition

The First Myanmar IT Exhibitiol1 '97 will be held at the Tatmadaw Convention
Centre from 4 to 7 September. On display will  be computer parts, kinds of
computers, computer history of Myanmar, Myanmar software, fields applying
computer technology, mini-computers, main frame computers, computer-related
departments, computer science, data communication, hardware, PLC computer and
companies. Local and Foreign technicians will lecture at the exhibition.
There will be organized talks and demonstration for entrepreneurs and
govenment departments.


(4) Bwetgyi Bridge on West Yoma Beltway Railroad Completed

Of 341 bridges on the Pyay-Aunglan-Taungdwingyi section, the present Bwetgyi
Bridge is 1,360 feet long and l1as 16 (85-foot) spans and 15 piers. It was
installed with 64 prestressed concrete frames. Construction of the bridge
commenced in October 1996. Now the project has completed cent-percent. In
building of the railroad section, ,100 per cent of earth work, 100 percent of
building bridges, 47.25 per cent of laying tracks, 95.38 per cent of laying
Chippings, 86.66 per cent of laying sleepers and 55.56 per cent of building
stations have completed so far.

OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 28 AUGUST

(A) Minister for Transport Lt. Gen. Thein Win received Deputy Chief Executive
Officer Mr. David SS Chin of Singapore Trade Development Board of Singapore
and party at his office. The Singaporean  delegation also discussed With
 senior officials of the ministry and marine advisers on the transport sector
at the ministry.

(B) Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig.Gen. Abel
 received Chairman Mr. Maris Samaram of SGV-NaThalang & Co Ltd, a
Thailand-based firm at his office.
