CHINESE CALL FOR STRONGER TRADE TIES WITH BURMA
	***********************************************

China's Foreign Trade Minister, Wu Yi, has called for
stronger economic and trade ties with Burma.

Mrs Wu's remarks, carried by the Xinhua newsagency, were
made during a meeting with her Burmese counterpart, Tun
          Kyi.

Trade between the two countries currently stands at only
          700-million dollars.

During the talks, Mrs Wu urged both sides to explore new
areas of cooperation, especially along the border which
Burma shares with China's Yunnan province.

China is a major foreign investor in Burma.
