FROM TOKYO: 8/8/88 ANNIVERSARY

Myanmar dissidents remember 1988 uprising KYODO 8/8

Some 60 Myanmar dissidents silently marched past their embassy
in Tokyo on Friday and started a 24-hour fast afterward to mourn
those silenced in Myanmar democracy uprisings in 1988.
They walked with their mouths taped shut to symbolize the
silencing of voices in the 1988 when countrywide pro-democracy
protests prompted the military to stage a coup and later renamed
itself the State Law and Order Restoration Council.
