(1)		Contributors in Tasks for Community Peace and  Tranquility 				Honoured
in Bahan Township
		A ceremony to honour those who assisted in the tasks for stability of
state, community peace and tranquility and prevalence of law and order was
held at Bahan Basic Education 1 in the afternoon attended  by Secretary-2 of
the State Law and Order Restoration Council.
		Speaking on the occasion, Minister Brig-Gen.. Lun Maung and officials
called  for public cooperation and assistance in the tasks for community
peace and tranquility and prevalence of law and order.

(2)		Allocation of Additional Funds for Border Area Development 				Projects
Discussed
		A meeting was held in the morning to allocate additional funds for border
area development projects in 1997-98 and budget for fiscal 1998-99 at the
Ministry for Progress of Border Area and National Races and Development
Affairs (PBANRDA).
		Minister for PBANRDA said additional funds should be applied not for new
projects but mainly for the existing projects urging regional work committees
to conduct financial matters in accord with the principles and to make field
tours to supervise the work at basic levels .
		Members of the respective regional work committees and  subcommittees took
part in the discussion.

(3)		First Issue of ? Myanmar Chronicle?
		The Printing and Publishing Enterprise of the Ministry of Information has
published the first issue of Myanmar Chronicle, an illustrated quarterly
handbook today, a handy pocket-size handbook on Myanmar culture and tradition
, facts and figures on business in Myanmar.

(4)		Drug Seizures 
		(I)	Acting on a tip-off, Yangon anti-drug squad searched the house of Tin
Win in Tarmway Township, Yangon, on 26 July afternoon and seized 0.528 kilos
of opium oil in bottles. On interrogation of Than Aung and Aung Cho (a) Maung
Lat, who arrived at the house while searching it, it was exposed that the
former was the one who treated the opium into opium oil and the latter an
addict. Tarmway 
Police Station has booked all of them under the Narcotic drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.
		
		(II)	Personnel of Mandalay anti-drug squad and Tatmadaw ( Defence Services
) Intelligence Unit seized a total of 1.704 kilo of heroin from the house of
Htay Win Myint and Ma Khun Yon Kyi of Pyigyitagun Township, Mandalay, on 
19 July. Action is being taken against them and other four involved in the
case in accord with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.	 

Office Calls in Yangon on 7 August 1997

(a)		His Excellency Mr. Gleb Alexandrovitch Iveshentsov, newly accredited
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Union of Myanmar, presented his
credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Law and Order 
Restoration Council  of the Union of Myanmar, at Dagon Yeiktha.

(b)		Secretary -1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt. Gen.
Khin Nyunt received Chairman of Institute of World Peace Mr. Hideo Watanabe
and party of Japan at Dagon Yeiktha.

(c)		Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor of Yangon 
U Ko Lay received Mr. Hideo Watanabe of Nifty International Co Ltd of Japan
and party at the City Hall in the morning. Accompanied by the Mayor, they
later visited the 30th. ASEAN Founding Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition
on the first floor of the City Hall.

(d)		Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received President of KOHAP Co
Mr. Lee Soo Kang and party at his office in the morning.
		Similarly, General Manager of China National Chemical Construction 
Cooperation (CNCC) Mr. Yaung Wen Xin and party also called on Minister U Khin
Maung Thein at his office.
