GRANT AWARDED: 1992
AMOUNT: $100000 - 12 months
PROGRAM SUMMARY: The NCGUB is an interim government, created in
December 1990 and composed of representatives of the people of
Burma democratically elected in May 1990 and denied the possibility
of taking office by the State Law and Order Restoration Council
(SLORC). It claims the power presently held illegitimately by the
military junta in place in Rangoon. The Centre has allocated
$100,000 to the NCGUB to publicize human rights violations in
Burma, obtain increased diplomatic support and lead the military
junta to transfer power to elected civilians.
