(1) Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to United States of
America
YANGON, 4 JULY-Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Law
and Order Restoration Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a
message of felicitations to the Honourable William Jefferson Clinton,
President of the United States of America, on the occasion of the
Independence Day of the United States of America which falls on 4 July
1997.

(2) The Special Refresher Course No 27 for Basic
Education Teachers concluded
YANGON, 3 July - The Special Refresher Course No 27 for Basic
Education Teachers concluded at the Central Institute of Civil
Service in Hlegu Township today, with an address by Chairman of
Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

(3) Myanmar goodwill delegation leaves for Laos
YANGON, 3 July - Myanmar goodwil1rdelegation led by m,ember? of the
State Law and Order Restoration Council Minister for Home Affairs
Lt-Gen Mya Thin left here by air this morning for Lao People?s
Democratic Republic at the invitation of Minister of Home,Affairs of
LPDR Maj-Gen Asang Laoty.
The goodwill delegation was seen off at the airport by member of the
State Law and Order Restoration Council Minister for Progress of Border
Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Lt-Gen Maung Thint,
Minister at the Office of Chairman of State Law and Order Restoration
Council Lt-Gen Min Thein, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin
Hlaing, Ambassador of Lao People?s Democratic Republic Mr Ly
Bounkham, heads of department under the ministry, officials and
relatives.
Minister Lt-Gen Mya Thin will attend the Third Ministerial Meeting of
Myanmar, Laos and Thailand on Joint Combatting of Narcotic Drugs to
be held on 4-5 July in Luang Prabang.

(4) Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Bangladesh
YANGON, 3 July -On behalf of the Chairman of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council, member of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Ambassador of
the People?s Republic of Bangladesh Mr Chowdhury Khalequzzaman, who
has completed his tour
of duty, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.
Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and Director-General of
Political Department U Khin Maung Win were also present.

(5) Minister for A & I inspects sugar mill projects in Bago, Mandalay
Divisions
YANGON, 3 July- Minister for Agriculture and irrigation Lt-Gen Myint
Aung, accompanied by officials left here for Bago and Mandalay
Divisions yesterday morning to inspect work being carried out by
departments under the ministry there.
In Kyauktaga Township, the minister met members of Division, District
and Township Law and Order Restoration Councils and departmental
personnel at Alekhin Farm.
He instructed them to use machines so as to increase per-acre yield
in monsoon paddy production and save time, expenditure and manpower
in cultivation and Processing.
The minister discussed construction of a new sugar mill in
Nyaungbintha with engineers and geologists of the People?s Republic
of China and officials at Nyaungbintha Central Farm in Pyu Township.

(6) Deputy Prime Minister receives President of Nutri Pharmaceuticals Inc
YANGON 3 July - Member of the State Law and Order Restoration Council
Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received President of Nutri
Pharmaceuticals Inc of United States of American Dr David T W Yew and
member and Victor Seah at his office this afternoon.

(7) Heroin seized in Dagon Myothit (North)
YANGON, 3 July - Acting on a tip-off, personnel of Yangon anti-drug
squad together with witnesses searched the house of Daw Sein at 11,
Ngwe Pyitha 2nd Street, Ward No 32, Dagon Myothit (North) at 3.30 pm
on 18 June and found heroin weighing 0.0054 kilo.
At about 6.10 pm, Kyaw Thein, 28, son of U Soe Kyi of Ma/725, Aung
Thiri 6th Street, Ward No 28, Dagon Myothit - (North), came to the
house of Daw Sein while the search was in progress. They? searched
him and found heroin weighing 0.00014 kilo.
At about 6;30 pm, Kyaw Aung, 42, son of U Aung Win of Ma/147, 157th
Street, Tarmway Township, came into Daw Sein?s house again. They also
searched him and found heroin weighing 0.0005 kilo and a hypodermic
syringe.
Action is being taken against the three under the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.

(8) Secretary-1?s speech clarified at Ministry of Science and Technology
YANGON, 3 July - Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung
recounted the clarification of the Secretary-l of the State Law and
Order Restoration Council on how some Western powers had been aiding
and abetting terrorism committed by certain organizations operating
under the guise of democracy and human rights by giving them
assistance in cash and kind at Myanma Science and Technology Research
Department this afternoon.
Present were directors-general, rectors and officials under the
ministry and service personnel of Minister?s Office and MSTRD.

Myanmar volleyball teams arrive back from PRC
YANGON, 3 July - Myanmar men?s and women?s volleyball teams led by
Lt-Col Thein Toe (Defence Services Records Office) arrived back here
by air this morning after playing goodwill matches in-the People?s
Republic of China. T he teams were welcomed back at thc airport by
Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Director-General of Sports and
Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw, Adviser Col Ngo
Ciin Pau and directors.

YANGON, 3 JULY -Minister for Cooperatives U Than Aung received
Managing Director Mr Plada Zvi and party of Gama Aluminium Ltd of
Israel, accompanied by Ambassador of Ismel Mr Gad Nathan, at his
office on Bogyoke Aung San Street at 2.30 pm today.
Present also were Director-General U Maung Hti of Cooperative
Department, Managing Director Daw Khin Swe Soe of Cooperative Export
and Import Enterprise, Director Dr Tun Aung Pru of Cottage Industries
Department and Head of Office U Hla-Kyu.
