Subject: The Karen refugees were forcibly repatriated.
The Karen refugees were forcibly repatriated by
Thai Soldiers
Tahi-Burma Border- June 14, 1997.
On June 13,1997,24 Karen refugees, who had
fled their homeland for Thailand, arrived Nopho
refugee camp near Umpamp town and Tak province.Thai
soldiers in that camp forced to go back against their
will.
Those refugees are from Htee Khe Pale,and
while the Slorc troops,Rgiment(106),LID (77),leading
Lt.Khin Soe,attacked the Village on March 27,the
villagers fled to the forest.Those 24 refugees were
aparted from others and even they could arrive Nopho
camp in Thailand on June 12.
According to eye-witness, Thai soldiers who
are camp officials didn't allow to enter the camp and
picked them to Umpamp by Army truck at about 4PM. Though
the refugees including women and children asked for
parmission with tear,the Thai soldier forced back them
to Burma.
