(1) Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Brunei Darussalem
YANGON, 9 June - On behalf of the Chairman of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council, member of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received
Ambassador of Brunei Darussalem Mr Pehin Datu Pekerma Bijaya Kolonel
Dato Paduka Haji Hussin bin Haji Sulaiman who has completed his tour
of duty at Dagon Yeiktha at 10.30 am today.
Present also were Minister for foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and
Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

(2) Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Russian Federation
YANGON, 9 June - On behalf of the Chairman of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council, member of-the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Ambassador of
the Russian Federation Mr Valeri V Nazarov who has.completed his tour
of duty at Dagon Yeiktha at 9.30 am today.
Present also were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and
Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

(3) MIDB Board of Directors holds meeting No 4/97
YANGON, 9 June - The meeting No 4/97 of the Board of Directors of
Myanma Industrial Development Bank was held at the meeting hall of
the bank on Pansodan Street today.
Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Chairman of
Myanma Industrial Development Bank Minister for Agriculture and
Irrigation Lt-Gen Myint Aung addressed the meeting.
Present also were Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Work
Committee Vice-Chairman of the Bank Minister for Industry2 Maj-Gen
Kyaw Than and members of the Board of Directors, the managing
director of the bank and officials.

(4) Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines arrives
YANGON, 9 June - At the invitation of Deputy Minister for Foreign
Affairs U Nyunt Swe, Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of the Philippines Mr Rodolfo C Severino arrived here by air
this afternoon.
He was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs
U Nyunt Swe, officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of
the Republic of the Philippines Mrs Sonia C Brady and embassy staff.
He paid a courtesy call on Alini6ter for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw
at his office at 4 pm today.
Present also were Deputy Minister U Nyunt Swe and Ambassador of the
Republic of the Philippines Mrs Sonia C Brady.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe hosted dinner in his
honour at the Trader, Hotel this evening.

(5) May Flower Bank introduces new generation ATM
YANGON, 9 June - Myanmar May Flower Bank Ltd explained extension of
its international banking services and introduction of new system of
automatic teller machines in Yangon today.
Under new system people can draw FECs from the new ATMs.
The ceremony at May Flower Bank at 9th Mile, Pyay Road, Mayangon
Township, was attended by Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen
Win Tin, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyi Aye, media
persons and officials.
Chairman of May Flower Bank Ltd U Kyaw Win briefed the guests on
developments of the bank and services, saying it has initiated
international banking system since 23 July 1996.
It now has connections with 26 banks in Singapore, the United States
of America, Malaysia, France, Japan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands,
Thailand, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam,
Denmark, India, Italy, Cyprus, the Republic of Korea, Germany,
Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Pakistan, Switzerland,
Greece and Bangladesh.
Two-hundred-twenty company accounts, 657 individual accounts and 217
joint accounts totalling 1,099 accounts are opened at the bank which
has eleven branches nation wide, he said.
U Kyaw Win and wife Daw Khin Kyi then donated K 1.2 million second
donation to upgrade Myitzu Street in Yankin Township.

Myanma gems
YANGON, 9 June-Ambassadors and Military Attaches of embassies in
Yangon were briefed on Myanma gems at the .Myanma Gems Emporium Hall
on Kaba Aye Pagoda. Road this morning.
Present were Deputy Ministers for Mines U Hlaing Win and U Myint
Thein, Deputy Leader of the Information Committee of the State Law
and Order Restoration Council Director of Public Relations and
Psy-chological Warfare Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Information Committee
member U Tin Kha, Managing Director of News and Periodicals
Enterprise, Director-General of the International Organizations and
Economic Department, U Ba Thwin and officials, Patron of Foreign
Correspondents Club U Sein Win, President of the Club U Sao Kai Hpa
and members, Ambassadors and Military Attaches led by Ambassador of
Bangladesh Brigadier Chowdhury Khalequzzaman (Retd), Managing
Director of Myanmar Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo, the directors-general
and managing directors of the Ministry of Mines and officials.

(7) Forest plantations should be set up to develop wood-based industries
YANGON, 9 June More forest plantations should be set up as private
wood-based industries are developing in the nation, stated Minister
for forestry Lt-Gen Chit Swe today.
Myanma Timber enterprise must modernize its wood-based industries
produce finished goods which have the quality to penetrate
international market, he said at the annual meeting to review
accomplishments in l996-97 and to draw work prefect for 1997-98 of
production division of Myanma Timber Enterprise.

(8) Minister for NPED receives President Director of PT Astra Graphia Tbk
Business Group Information Technology
YANGON, 9 June Minister for National Planning and Economic
Development Brig-Gen Abel received President Director of PT Astra
Graphia Tbk Business Group Information Technology of Indonesia Mr
Inget Sembiring at his office at 10 am today.
They discussed building of information technology infrastructure in
computing and communications, application of electronic mail and
workflow as the enabling technology for personal productivity and use
of internet and intranet in information sharing.
Present also were Director-General of Central Statistical
Organization Dr Sein Tin and officials.

YANGON, 9 June Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received
General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation Mr Y Mizutani and party at
his office this afternoon.
They discussed mutual cooperation and investment in energy sector.
Director-General of Energy Planning Department U Soe Myint was also
present.

(10) Minister for Hotels and Tourism receives Director of JMFA
YANGON, 9 June-Member of the State Law and Order Restoration Council
Minister for Hotels and Tourism Lt-Gen Kyaw Ba received Director Mr
Koichi Oka of Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association of Japan at his
office this afternoon.
Mr Koichi Oka presented a letter of greetings sent by Chairman of the
Association Mr Koichi Tsukamoto to the minister.
He said the association is over twenty years old and was formed with
a view to further strengthening friendly relations between the two
countries, expanding cooperation, promoting understanding, providing
assistance in social work, exchanging experience and views,
preserving cultural heritage.
He also said about 30 entrepreneurs led by the chairman will come to
Myanmar in November and expressed his desire to form Myanmar-Japan
Friendship Association in Myanmar.
The minister said the aim of the association is to render better
assistance to the entrepreneurs during their stay in Myanmar.
Present also were Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and
Tourism U Khin Maung Latt and officials.

(11) Revenue and Accounts Management Instructor Course No 1/97 concludes
YANGON, 9 June-The Revenue and Accounts Management Instructor Course
No 1/97 of the Development Affairs Department of the Ministry for
Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs
concluded at the central Training School of the Ministry of
Construction in Thuwunna this morning.
Minister for Progress of Borderf Areas and National Races and
Development Affairs Lt-Gen Maung Thint addressed the concussion.
Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
Maj-Gen Soe Myint, Minister at the Office of the Deputy Prime
Minister U Khin Maung Yin, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development
Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Deputy Minister U Kyaw Tin, heads
of departments and officials.
