        FRIENDS OF BURMA---- APPEALS TO THAILAND KING

By  A Staff Reporter IMPHAL,  May 15:  The Friends of Burma
(Manipur) has appealed the King of Thailand,  King Bhumibol
Adulyadej, to intervene to resolve the complex and critical
crisis   and  problems  of  the  common  masses  of  Burma.

The  organisation further said that the crisis is affecting
ethnic  minorities,  women,  children,   students and monks
under  the  regime of  the  SLORC,  which  appears  to have
violated  all national norms of  human right and democratic
governance.

The   organisation  also  expressed  its  appreciation  and
thanked the King for his historic practice of welcoming and
supporting  of  refugees from  neighbouring  countries with
exemplary compassion and generosity.  The organisation also
expressed  their  belief  that the  tradition  will  go on.

It asks Bhumibol to intervene in case of the Burma refugees
to  alleviate this  crisis in  the cause  of human dignity.

However   the  organisation  expressed  its  shock  at  the
Thailand   National  Security   Council's  announcement  to
repatriate  all Burma refugees camped along the Thai- Burma
border, when the situation is "safe".

The  organisation observes that the international situation
is  totally  unsafe for  the refugees  to return  to Burma.

The  organisation also express that the SLORC has a dubious
stand  regarding its declaration  to gradually transfer its
power   to  a   civilian  government   under  a  democratic
constitution  as the violation of human right is increasing
day by.
