Burma-China-HongKong : Burma agrees to maintain consulate-general in Hong Kong
after July 1

BANGKOK, April 26 (AFP) - Burma has signed an agreement with China to maintain
its consulate-general in Hong Kong after the territory returns to Chinese
sovereignty on July 1, official Burmese media reported Saturday.

The agreement was signed Friday in Rangoon by Burma's deputy foreign minister
Nyunt Swe and the Chinese ambassador Chen Baoliu, the New Light of Myanmar
said in a report received here.

China was the first country to recognise Burma's military regime after it came
to power in a bloody coup in 1988, and is the main supplier of military aid to
Rangoon.
