                                       RANGOON -- Burma and China have signed
                                       agreements for border cooperation and
agricultural
                                       development, the state-run newspaper
New Light
                                       of Myanmar reported Wednesday.

                                       The agreement on border cooperation
was signed
                                       by Luo Gan, secretary-general of
China's State
                                       Council, and Gen. Khin Nyunt, head of
Burma's
                                       military intelligence.

                                       The two countries share a
2,200-kilometer border.

                                       A separate agricultural agreement was
signed by
                                       Gen. David Abel, Burma's minister for
national
                                       planning and economic development,
and Yang
                                       Wanqian, a Chinese vice foreign minister.

                                       Under the agreement, China is to
grant Burma 5
                                       million yuan ($609,000) for technical
cooperation
                                       and purchase of Chinese agricultural
equipment.

                                       The Chinese officials who signed are in a
                                       delegation making a five-day visit to
Burma
                                       ending Friday.
