The withdrawal of GSP for Burma is

Subject: The withdrawal of GSP for Burma is on the European Union's Agenda!

The GSP for Burma is on the agenda for the General Council meeting on the
24/25th of March of the EU( meeting in Brussels) .

Quoting and translating the Dutch Agenda: "The General Council will be
requested to agree with the suspension of the General System of Preferences
for agricultural and industrial products for Burma. With this suspension the
EU wants to express its dissatisfaction in regards to the human rights
situation in Burma, especially to the existence of forced labour."

As far as BCN now knows, the GSP will be brought in as a so-called A-point:
meaning it will pass without further discussion, since the text for the
proposal has been discussed beforehand by the permanent representatives of
the various countries.

BCN will keep you updated on this as further info comes in.
