              REBELS QUIT: Thousands of Myanmar's ethnic Shan guerillas who
broke away
              from opium warlord Khun Sa nearly two years ago with a vow to
continue fighting Yangon
              have agreed to end their armed struggle, Shan sources said in
Bangkok. 

              A joint statement by the Shan State Peace Keeping Committee
and the Shan National
              Liberation Democratic group said that instead of waging armed
struggle, the guerillas
              would work with with Myanmar's military government. -- Reuter.
