			Women we love
			*************

Women made news this year as leaders and mothers, revealing their
strengths on the world stage and in the domestic realm. Aung San
Suu Kyi continues to earn admiration for her stoicism as the
	figurehead in Burma.

Five Age writers of The Age newspaper in Australia nominate 10
women who made their mark in 1996. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is among them.

	- Aung San Suu Kyi: The Nobel Peace Prize-winner showed courage in
	standing against Burma's military regime.

						[Mike Richards].

	- Aung San Suu Kyi: This time last year we loved Suu Kyi - she had
been freed from house arrest and the walls of Burma's repressive
military rule were shaking. Now she is back under virtual house arrest,
and her brave leadership seems to have instilled little shame in the
	regime.

						[Virginia Trioli].

	- Aung San Suu Kyi: continues to stand against the political
oppression of the Burmese junta, even while under house arrest. They
might lock her up, but they can't shut her up.

						[Jim Schembri].
