According to a news report, SLORC had arrested the leader of the SHAN
NATIONALITIES PEOPLE LIBERATION ORGANIZATION ( SNPLO ), Tar Kale ( and other top
leaders ) in the capital of Shan State, Taunggyi.

SNPLO is an organization that had made ceasefire agreement with the SLORC since
09.10.94.

After the detention, the following day, the SLORC sent its military to annex the
SNPLO headquarter which is situated east of Hsi Hseng town near Nong Thong.

It is said that the SNPLO's defiance of the SLORC's order for total surrender
has paved the way for the Burmese military to use force when the SNPLO was not
aware of it, according to the people close to SNPLO sources.
