S.H.A.N : STATEMENT OF THE SHAN STATE ORGANISATION ( S.S.O )
13 October, 1996.

Shan State Organisation received a copy of the press release by the Shan United
Revolutionary Army's Liason office ( SURA ) dated 07.10.96.

SSO deplore the action of SLORC against the people of Shan State. If SLORC is
sincere in achieving peace in Burma through negotiations in a peaceful manner,
it could seriously consider and gave due respect to the Shan State Army's ( SSA
) endeavour in searching for 
" PEACEFUL CONFLICT RESOLUTION " in Shan State.

SLORC's main aim in Shan State is a gradual GENOCIDE not just to annihilate
SURA. SLORC could not implement its genocidal plans using military force against
the people of Shan State if they accept SURA merging with the SSA. SURA would
become a cease-fire group under SSA and SLORC would have no reason to use its
military force to implement its plans.

The SSO call for the UN and the international community to take appropriate
actions against SLORC.
