Dear Burma Readers, Activists and Friends,

As you may know or guess, France is a leading tourist trader with Burma. 
As yet, unlike the excellent work done by BAG in London on challenging 
UK tourism, the French lag in both information and activist boycott of 
travel to Burma. This is most regrettable and we encourage support to 
turn the tide of French travel to Burma though an information  and 
boycott campaign.

For you information, EuroBurmanet discovered one of the many travel 
agencies promoting Burmese travel packages, and we encourage that you 
write them and voice your discontent and outrage putting them on the 
boycott black list if they continue to promote tourism to Burma.

Danish Social Democrat Prime Minister Poul Nyrup
Rasmussen on September 11 promised to do everything
possible through the European Union to bring about
binding European sanctions against the Burmese military
dictatorship.  He also promised to work at the United
Nations General Assembly in New York this fall to not
only strengthen the language of the UNGA resolution but
to try and bring about concrete action against the rogue
regime.  Last but not least, he announced that Denmark
will step up support for the Burmese democracy movement
especially to the exiled National Coalition Government of
the Union of Burma led by Prime Minister Dr. Sein Win,
cousin of 1991 Nobel Peace laureate and embattled Burmese
democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Following Prime Minister Rasmussen 5 remarks, the Social
Democratic Party of Denmark unanimously adopted an
official resolution supporting the Prime Minister. The
Burma resolution was the first to be adopted at the 125th
Congress of the Party which opened the same afternoon.
Rasmussen made his announcement in response to an appeal
by Anton Johannsen, Chairman of the Danish Burma
Committee and a prominent Danish trade union leader, for
the Party to support Daw Aung San Suu Kyi'5 call for
economic sanctions against the SLORC regime. The Danish
Burma Committee backed by the Labor Organization, the
largest Danish trade union organization, launched a
consumer boycott campaign in August against four Danish
companies doing business in Burma.  The Committee has
also requested SAS, the Scandinavian Airlines, to stop
purchasing fuel from TOTAL, the French oil company
building a natural gas pipeline in Burma. A European
campaign against TOTAL is being planned.

Burmese Prime Minister-in-exile, Dr. Sein Win, attending
the Congress at the invitation of the Social Democratic
Party of Denmark, said he was gratified and encouraged by
the strong support being given to his government and the
Burmese democracy movement. High level meetings are
expected to take place during the Congress.

The Danish Social Democratic Party states that

-       Denmark will continue its efforts to implement a
binding international boycott through EU,

-       Denmark will make a marked effort that the United
Nations General Assembly not only will condemn the
military generals of Burma, but also discuss concrete
actions against the generals,

-       Denmark will continue its marked and concrete
support to the democratic movement in Burma and to the
democratic government in exile,

-       We hope that we shall welcome Aung San Suu Kyi as
our guest at the next congress.
