Bumese Exiles Mark Uprising
Bangkok - Exiled Burmese dissidents shed their own blood and staged hunger strikes Thursday to mark the eighth anniversary of one of the bloodiest days in a failed pro-democracy uprising in Rangoon.
Several members of a group of chanting dissidents cut themselves during a protest in front of the Burmese Embassy in Bangkok an smeared their blood on the embassy wall, next to paper blood drops taped to the embassy sign.
In central Tokyo, a group of Burmese activists started a 36-hour hunger strike to demand that the Japanese government halt economic assistance to Burma's military government. (Reuters)
