PLEASE SAVE BBC BURMESE...

Dear Friends,

Thanks for the magnificent letters you have been writing. This is a crucial
week for BBC World Service - since the Director General and Chairman of the BBC
have repeated yesterday that they are still set on splitting it up - but a House
of Commons foreign affairs select committee is investigating the issue this
week, and the amount of support World Service gets is all-important. Please do
keep up the good work - even if you have not personally listened to the BBC -
because it is the people in Burma that really count. As one e-mail elequently
stated "People listen to the BBC every morning and night. You can hear BBC
every place in Burma, every city, every village and even in the jungle camps."

PLEASE NOTE changed e-mail addresses for both the British Foreign Secretary
(Sir Malcolm Rifkind) and the BBC Chairman (Sir Christopher Bland). For both
men, would you now please send to
** <worldservice.letters@xxxxxxxxx>
         for forwarding?

In addition, I now have direct fax numbers for both men:

BBC Chairman: (44) 171 431 2022
Foreign Secretary: (44) 171 839 2417

   Do look after yourselves,

   Derek Brooke-Wavell
