New Special Rapporteur

The new Special Rapporteur to Burma is Rajsoomer Lallah, it was announced 
on June 27. He is a former Chief Justice of Mauritius, and was Special 
Rapporteur to Chile in 1983-4. He is also a member of the UN Committee 
for Human Rights, which monitors the implementation of the UN 
International Convenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Mr. Lallah 
trained as a lawyer in London.
His term of office as Special Rapporteur starts immediately.
