The SLORC: The People's Worst Enemy

The SLORC: The People's Worst Enemy

With due respect to all religions, I would like to say that Buddhism
is very practical. There are Five Enemies: (1) Fire, (2) Wind, (3) Water,
(4) Those who dislike us, and (5) The Government.

Burma has experienced the life-killing and destructive forces of fire,
wind and water many times. Fires destroyed houses and killed people.
Storms destroyed houses and killed people. Floods destroyed houses and
killed people. But these forces did not destroy houses and kill people all
the time and in all the places. They destroy houses and kill people
sometimes in some places. They are natural forces of destruction.

The last two enemies are human forces.

The last enemy is the worst enemy. Since 1962 the military governmet
has been ruling Burma and has been destroying not only houses some houses,
but also whole villages. It (the military government) has been killing tens
of thousands of unarmed people.

At a peasants seminar sometime between 1962 and 1965, General Ne Win
told the audience to reduce the number of the Five Enemies to Four Enemies
by dropping the Government from the list.

Many people have been fleeing to other countries because of the
military government's evil destruction and murder. Those who cannot flee
are suffering under the heavy burden of the military.
